The introduction of the "F" models have brought a new breed here.

Yes...  I'm talking about SQUIDS!

Since the "F" models, more and more new young riders have been flocking to this "flashy" bike.  Most of these people are too immature to realize that they ARE immature.  They lie to themselves (and their parents) that they are responsible enough to own and ride a bike.

I'm sorry, but having a part-time job doesn't make you responsible.  Or mature for that matter.

I've noticed that many of the new GSTwins.com members who bought BRAND SPANKING NEW GS500f models ask the most "squidly" questions.  I'm not trying to put anyone down.  That's the last thing on my mind.

To our "newer" board members:  Please use the search function.  I'm in no way a search-nazi, but it can help minimize the tension we've been experiencing.  If you can't find it, please think BEFORE you post: "Would I ask my parents this question?"

To our "older" board members:  Please remember this thread when replying to squidly questions.

Something that would reduce some of the tensions that we've been feeling lately is if folks would stop being so judgmental of others. :thumb:

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!

Honestly I think we're all a bit squidly.

Have you ever opened the throttle full tilt for any other reason than to avoid a car?

Ever scraped a peg?

Ever had chicken strips because something gave you a scare?

Ever wondered how you look in your gear?

Ever bought gear cause it matches the bike?

Ever ridden without a full compliment of gear?

I understand the difference, but really, even for owning a "sport bike" aren't we all a little bit squidly?
I really think that we should all look at ourselves and ask, "Am I perfect?" before we rail on everyone else for their flaws.

Yes. To accelerate to the speed limit. Ok, that was the facetiousness kicking in.
Ever scraped a peg?
Three times. All three were accidental.

Ever had chicken strips because something gave you a scare?
Uhh.. I think you're misunderstanding what chicken strips are. Try a search, n00bcake! This is a good post Ok.. there was the facetiousness again, sorry..

Ever wondered how you look in your gear?
Yep. I look fat. Oh well.

Ever bought gear cause it matches the bike?
Sorta. I bought black and silver gear because I like black and silver. But I bought a black and silver bike.. because I like black and silver. So yes, and no?

Ever ridden without a full compliment of gear?
Guilty of that one.

I understand the difference, but really, even for owning a "sport bike" aren't we all a little bit squidly?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! He called the GS a sport bike! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *Makes "chicken strips" in his pants from laughing so hard*

I really think that we should all look at ourselves and ask, "Am I perfect?" before we rail on everyone else for their flaws.

Ok.. so most of those replies were really just me being a smartass, and kind of an @$$hole, and blowing off steam.

I'm not saying I'm perfect. I'm saying I have discretion. Which is the better part of valor. Or something. I'm not railing on Nick for his flaws. I'm trying to teach the kid something. Hell. Strike that. I'm not gonna call him a kid. I'm barely his senior. If at all, I'm not even sure. I know I hate being called kid. I'm trying to teach NICK something. Help him out. EEEESH...

Oh, and CirclesCenter, don't think I'm lashing out at you, I like you.. well, you know what I mean (no ghey jokes ), your posts make me laugh, I harbor no ill will towards you. Hell, I harbor no ill will towards anyone. I'm just throwing my own opinion out there. Take it or leave it.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

CirclesCenter

Does it come with a side of fries?

Oh BTW, not too worried, just man it really seems like everyone is picking on these guys. (I used to be that kid in the back of the class with no friends who everyone picked on, so yeah maybe a little bit of that showing here.....)

Yeah they're squidly. It happens. I'm kinda squidly myself.

I don't think anyone really has looked at their behavior towards these guys.

Let's see I'll answer my own questions.

Ever opened the throttle for any other reason than to avoid a car?
DAMN SKIPPY I HAVE!

Ever Scraped a peg?
Does dragging it like a dog with hemmroids mean anything to you?

Ever wondered how you look in your gear?
Only when I see my reflection as I ride by plate glass windows.

Ever bought gear because it matches the bike?
Well, yeah! Want me to wear green on a red bike? It's not christmas you know.....

Ever ridden without a full compliment of gear?
Yeah. Glad I wasn't doing that when I crashed.

Even for owning a "sport bike" aren't we all a little bit squidly?
First of all STFU, I put it in quotes DAMNIT!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOL!
But no really, we're not riding 125cc scooters so power must be a concern in some measure.
Rich, RIP.

CirclesCenter

OH BTW I thought chicken strips were the un-used areas of tire from not leaning it hard, am I mistaken?

Cause I need to abolish mine now, still getting the courage back....
Rich, RIP.

I have recently been thinking along these same lines-ie that the F model has attracted a new, different kind of rider to gstwin. In part that is true. More new riders are seeing the gs500f as a doppler to the gsxr line and that has made it acceptable again as a first bike. I think that is good.
IN fact, its probably too good, because its getting LOTS of riders to start on the gs. So I think its partly that the F model does look more like a gsxr and that there are simply more riders on gs500's and therefore more of them here.

In the end it doesnt really matter. There have always been riders on gstwin who have been stunters, even from way back in the day.  There have always been riders who dont have the same idea of safety gear as you or I do. Hell, I was surprised at what Kerry considered safety gear when he came to LA to visit and I gave him a tour of the local canyons. :icon_rolleyes:. there have always been riders who disparage the gs500 or who disparage members here. Not so much as now though.

In the end, the only thing that really matters is that this community still exists and that its existence helps new or long time riders on gs500's to enjoy their bikes, or fix them, or set up rides, or ask dumb questions that 3 other people were thinking about too...

Hello, my name is pablo and I am a squid.
I have done flat out speed runs on public roads...150+mph.
My gear matches my bike.
scraped a peg or two.
always wanted to get a knee down on the road. once I did it on the track I was less intersted in doing it on the road (only a handful of times have I done it on the road to this day).
I used to go to client meetings (occasionally, only occasionally) wearing only the helmet and jacket, khakis and dress shoes...
I own a sportbike.
I used to mod the hell out of my gs500...anyone remember http://pantablo500.tripod.com/?

Hello, my name is Brian, and I am a squid.
I have topped out my bike on public roads.
Scraped a peg or two, but only while crashing.
Always thought getting a knee down would be awesome. Did it on the track. It was. Caused me to crash. Still want to do it.
I regularly wear jeans and sneakers as part of my gear ensemble.
All my gear matches my bike.
I own a demi-sportbike.
My next bike is probably going to be a liter bike.
I've wheelied on public roads.
I've done a burnout before.
I've scared myself stupid more than once.
I've hurt myself riding. I still love it.
I've ridden without a helmet, jacket, or gloves before because my girlfriend was with me and had no gear.
I mod the hell out of my GS500. Notice the signature?

I bought my GS back in 01 before the F model was ever even entered in on paper.

I just jumped it, coming up one of the steepest roads in San Diego.

I don't give a damn who is a squid or not. Their problem, their saftey. Plus we all do squidly things. As i said before is squidly posts bother you - don't even go in. Dont write search noobcake! just ignore it or write search "blah blah blah" then no one should have a problem.

I think its good their is a faired GS. It is a desirable bike and even if it is attracting alot of younger riders so what. Better they ride a gsxr look-alike as a noob than a gsxr1k for real. Call it damage limitation. Plus people will stunt on any bike, fairing or not - new or old.

now my turn

Helly, my name is Luke, i have committed squidly acts.
I have done 140mph on public roads.
I have worn a hole in my boot - just yesterday actually/ had jeans on so no knee down.
I wear all my gear 99.9% of the time, however it all matches my bike and i have knee sliders, scratched in.
I own an ex race bike - 400cc zxr400.
Ive scared myself more than once.
Ive crashed, but got back up and carried on.
My next bike wil be an R1.

I have seen triple digits on the speedo.
My goal in life is to use the very edge of my tires regularly.
I am getting ready to upgrade to a bigger bike for the second time this summer.
I have never done a track day.
I crashed and it was my fault and I will never make that (same) mstake again.

Because some people prefer fairing to naked makes you a squid? I am not even sure how to reply to this post.

This is why people warn others away from this board, and after this post I  guess I finally agree. There are some great people here that can be very helpful as well as nice, sry to you all because from my perspective, you're out numbered.

Best of luck to you all, be safe and if ya can bring this fourm back then best of luck.

Goodbye and have fun riding :thumb:

Hello, my name is Jen_ and I am a squid.
I bought my GS because it was faired and cheap.
I have done flat out speed runs on public roads...on my GS, this is not all that scary.
My gear does not match my bike but is pink for extra girly showoff points.
Haven't scraped my peg cause the centerstand hits first.
No knees down...yet.
I ride regularly to work in jeans or Dockers and dress shoes.
I put a new yellow shock on my bike because it matched the paint.  I put "R" stickes on my bike to further it's masquerade as a GSX-R.  I put a Metzeler sticker on my bike, even though I only have 1 Metzeler tire.
I just spent $300 on Oakley sunglasses that I was gonna use for a trackday.
My next bike will have 100 hp. (Hmm, GSXR 750 maybe)

The new GS500F is a hit with the women.

a typical conversation goes something like this about my bike (usually at bike meets)

- a couple walks up to my bike and says something like "oh yeah, [insert girls name here] you should get one of these"
- we talk for a few minutes and then i mention the older GS500E bikes are being cheaper than the GS500F and widely available.. usually before i finish this sentance they cut me off with a "hell no, this one looks nice with the plastics" or a "No, i like the look of this one"

At the end of the day it doesn't matter because 90% of the people who ride won't give a crap about what you're riding, as long as it is in good working order and has two wheels.

I understand if you get annoyed with people asking stuff in the forum witout searching first- I get that feeling too... just keep in mind that you; yes you annguyen were a huge squid too (not too long ago). last I heard you wanted to sell your bike to get a nice and fast R6 because the GS isnt fast enough or isn't a real sportbike or something dumb like that. then you crash  are fixing it up. I'm sorry to pick on you, but it's just one example. everybody goes through it. believe me, I have too; I'm just glad I moved back to MA where I was actually forced to wear a helmet and be responsible; since then I have completly turned around. I hope after you fix up your GS that you will keep it and learn how to milk it for all it's worth. that would be a very respectable decision; and one you wont regret.
a great thing about this forum is that it knocks some sense into those squids' heads. lets keep doing that rather than give them crap and turn them away for asking dumb questions. we will always get those questions....

my name is Joel.
-I havent scraped my knee yet. I did get to scrape my ass one time.
-I've ridden not two, but THREE (adults)-up...
-you get the idea. I think I'll stop there... I've changed a lot since those days.  :icon_mrgreen:
-It got so humid here I broke down & wore a tee-shirt the other day. I have since ordered a mesh fieldsheer jacket... which is probably USELESS in a crash but makes me feel a little better....
-so I guess I have been squid-free for three days now... but I think I feel a relapse coming because it finally stopped raining!
-my next bike will probably (hopefully) be a Daytona 675 or Ducati something... I'm a big fan of throwing my bike around and those endless lean angles. jap bikes are great but a dime-a-dozen.  :thumb:

I've opened the throttle full tilt to see if I had synchronized the carburetors all the way to redline.
I've buried the needle and hit the rev limiter in the Carousel @ Sears Point on the FZR (14,000rpm redline).
I've gone nearly as fast on my GS (115) as I did on my FZR400 (120mph) on a public road...repeatedly (I only did it once on the FZR).
I've only scraped the peg on my '82 Vision in a right-hand corner and that was on accident.
I've only scraped my right kneepuck in turn 11 @ Sears, and the first time it was an accident, the rest were intentional  :icon_twisted:
Gear?  What do I need gear for?  I'm not riding to crash.  I'ma squid.  But, my white $160 Jordans match all of my Gixxers.  And, I definitely, don't want to crash in those.
I currently have 1" chickenstrips because I'm older and my survival instinct is stronger now.  How many times do you think I have scared myself riding in the rain for the past 20 years?

No.  A brown leather airman's jacket matches nothing.

I'm sorry you think this way, but I wasn't trying to put ANYONE down.  All I'm stating is that because of the "F" model being sold, the GS500 is becoming more and more popular with EVERY TYPE OF RIDER...  INCLUDING SQUIDLY TYPE...

I just wanted to bring that to everyone's attention, and to have a more peaceful forum to visit.

Hey Annguyen.

You are a condescending @$$hole, that just so happened so complete the dork bag trifecta by being a dumb ass, and judgemental.  So having a faired bike makes you a squid.... man, Im so glad you cleared that up for me, because i was laying in bed last night wondering, "I wonder what, on my bike, makes me not use the search function."  And you answered it for me, I have a Fairing.  Oh man now I know how to instantly make my self smarter, just take off the fairing.

Thanks,
Your a dork
Eric

And again....  Someone take too much offense into something that wasn't meant to offend.

I don't remember saying ANYTHING about how "squids" don't search.  I rarely use the search function.  I know I should, but I don't always use it.  I'm just saying that it will eliminate some of the tension.  I have never seriously told someone to search themselves.  I've done it as a joke, but if I offended someone by doing that, then I'm truly sorry.

:mad:I HAVE AN "F" MODEL!!!
DOES ANYONE F*CKING REMEMBER THAT?!?!?!

Again, I'm just wanting a more peaceful board to visit and make friends.  I didn't mean EVERYONE who gets and faired bike is a squid.  I'm saying most squidly people who get a bike are gonna get a faired model...  And that's fine.

CirclesCenter said it best:
"Honestly I think we're all a bit squidly"

I know I am.  I don't wear my gear ALL THE F*CKING TIME.  I let the throttle loose sometimes (on public roads).  But I realize the limitations, and I don't act like GHOSTRIDER and try and outrun the police, or do wheelies down the highway for a couple-hundred feet or so.  I just want EVERYONE to be safe and have fun (on the road and on this board).
