Well, it was fun while it lasted...

Well after my big plight with the lien on the title and issues with the seller he has agreed to come on Saturday and give me my money back; the bike goes back to him.  Kinda sad to give up the bike without ever riding it but it makes the most sense.

This whole scenario has sort of put me off riding for now, think I'm just going to save up and see if I can get a new car.  Maybe in the future when I'm more out on my own (and have a garage) I'll get another bike.  For now it just makes more sense to me to stick to a car.

After all you've been through. You shouldn't give up on us yet!

Well it kinda hit me that I'm not at a good point to be riding right now.  My dad's getting remarried and so I don't want to stress him out worrying about me also.  Plus we live in a condo complex where the bike would have to reside outside, and then I would have to impose on my friends for storage.  When I'm older (I'm 20 now) and a little more secure I'll get back into riding.

Alright at least you got your money back

Yeah too bad I'm too late for newenough's return policy.  Guess I will have to hit e-bay to sell the gear.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for ya...  Or maybe it did???

It sounds like you are very responsible and mature, and I hope you can find your way back to motorcycling soon! :thumb:

Stick around anyway.  Lots of people here didn't have a bike before they joined.  I think one of our members didn't even have a bike for a LONG time...  I can't remember who yet.

Altephor: It really sucks that you've been put through the ringer while trying to buy your first bike. Take some time to get the bad taste out of your mouth, and then who knows what you might decide. It's hard to let go once the bug has bitten you....  :icon_lol:

Hang onto the gear.  You'll need it later when you get another bike.

NiceGuysFinishLast

Either hang onto the gear, or send an email to the guys at newenough, including links to your threads here. They're pretty cool people over there, and as long as you're nice to them, you may be surprised as to how far out of their way they'll go to help you!

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Altephor

I did call newenough and the person I talked to said I would have to talk to someone higher than him who was out til later this week/next week.  So I will talk to him later, and if I can't return there is always ebay.

I wouldn't call it quits just yet!  What happened was a life experience.  Whether you're willing to admit it or not, you learned something and you're the wiser for it.  Don't change your mind and back down just because you had a bad experience.  If you do, you'll find yourself missing out on a lot of life.

I think your decision to buy a car is a good one, so I'm not knocking it.  If you won't have the option of using your parent's car buying a car should be more important than a bike.  There are days when riding the bike is no fun, or is downright unsafe.  That doesn't mean you have to spend every dollar you have on an automobile.

What I suggest you do is buy a car with some of your money, save the rest, keep adding to the stash, and don't sell your gear just yet.  Keep your eyes peeled this fall, and possibly next spring for a cheap GS.  You might be suprised what you find.  Running bikes are inexpensive in the fall because people sell them to upgrade in the spring.  Fixer-uppers are dirt cheap in the spring, usually with simple problems like water in the gas tank, bad air filters, or carbs in need of cleaning.

I would be patient and look for a fixer-upper.  This board and craigslist is a great resource.  Fixer-uppers can be found for under $500, and you'll learn something getting it back into running order.  Working on a secondary form of transportation is a good low-hassle way to learn how to keep your machinery in order.  I consider being a decent mechanic to be a life skill, just like cooking and balancing a check book.  My Chevy dealers base rate is $125 an hour.  They want $800 to change the shocks on a vehicle similar to mine, a task which I can do in 2-3 hours.  For a lot of people, $800 is more than a weeks pay.

Think about it...   :)

Well no, I have my own car now.  It's a 95 civic.  But I am into the whole street-racing thing, and while it's no safer than a bike I think for right now I'd rather have a faster car.  When I'm a little older and not under my parents, and have a garage to store it in, then maybe I'll look back into bikes.. an SV maybe.

Keep the gear.  You'll lose more money selling it at a loss, and then having to buy new, potentially more expensive gear later.

Sorry about your misfortune, don't let it get you discouraged.  Never give up, but you seem to have opened your eyes to practicality, which is a common trait among motorcyclists and pick-up drivers.  A faster car can cause you to spend more money, faster.

Wish you luck, and hope you come back.

Well so far this refund is NOT going well.  Now he's telling me he might not be able to take work off Saturday, and if he calls out he wants me to reimburse him for the loss of hours, which I told him I simply would not do.  He also wants $50 to drive down here to get the bike, which although stupid on my part, I agreed to just to GET THIS DONE.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though you'll be able to trust this guy. Probably be wise to accept cash only, and have HIM sign something stating he's picked the bike up. Him wanting to keep money for anything at all is ludicrous. I'm sorry you've had to deal with such a crook.

I'm hoping for the best for you, but if things still don't work out, and you don't get a refund, file a police report if you can. Also file a complaint with your state attorney general, if that's an option (I don't know if you can file a complaint against an individual or only businesses).

I wanted cash but he said he was 'uncomfortable', so it looks like it will be a certified bank check.  Which is not cash but is probably the next best thing.

Something will be signed by both of us that details the whole transaction, and I'm considering asking a police officer to oversee and sign on the whole thing.

pandy

Wow. Every new detail you give about this just makes my jaw drop. Can you meet him at the/a bank so that they might verify that the certified bank check is authentic? Or, if he's not comfortable carrying cash  :icon_rolleyes:, meet him at a close branch of his bank so that he can withdraw the cash right there and not have to carry it around. One of the big scams around here (on Craig's List) is for someone to offer to pay by money order or certified check, and either the check is no good, or they make the check out for a higher amount and ask for the "change" back in cash. People suck sometimes...

Get an attorney now or get the police involved.  If you gave him cash, get cash back.  Or go to the bank the check is drawn on.  They can easily be counterfitted by unscrupulous persons.
