Does anyone know whether this gear indicator will work on a 06 GS500F?

http://www.acumen-electronics.co.uk/shop/products.php?category=142&product=130

Anyone actually installed this or any other gear indicator on the newer GS with electronic tech/speedo?

NiceGuysFinishLast

I've never seen that one before. The only one that I know for sure has been successfully installed on any GS before is the veypor.. But it's about twice as much. Supposed to be REALLY cool though. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I don't believe any year GS500 has an electronic speedo, just an electronic tach.

Oops  :icon_razz: My bad. The web site does have a kit for the cable speedo application, but I guess that will push it into the price range of a veypor. The veypor is very nice but I was really looking for a cheap gear indicator.

NiceGuysFinishLast

why exactly do you want one? Not flaming, just curious. Admittedly, I'm a n00b with only about 1400 miles under my belt.. but I've never felt the need for one. I keep a mental note of my gear. And really, gears don't matter anyway. Revs do. If I'm cruising at 7K, I know that I can drop down one, gun it, get good acceleration, and not hit my redline too quickly. Whereas, if I'm cruising at 9K, I'm not gonna do that, cuz I'll push her into redline just by shifting. That's just my personal view though... so let me in on your view.

Just give it time.  After a while you will instinctually know what gear you are in even without paying attention.

I've wanted a gear indicator a couple times...  Usually when I'm tired and try to start from a light in 2nd...  Or on the freeway and try to shift into 7th 'cause I'm going too fast...

I can see why they'd be pretty cool, but not for the price. :dunno_white:

  You have a 15t?  That's when it really got bad...  7th!!  I NEED 7th!!!

Last weekend I went on a ~90 mile trip with two other bikes...  A H#nda 919 and an SV650...  I REALLY wanted 7th then.    The poor GS was trying to hard on the straights (But, noooooo problem keeping up (or passing) on corners).

Ahem, the GS450 in my garage has a gear position indicator.  All of my Suzooks do.  Where does the cost-cutting end on this bike?  :icon_rolleyes:

Would love to have one just so that I know I'm in 1st at a stop light.  I have stalled the bike because I thought I was in 1st but I was in 2nd or 3rd.

Really? That's crazy.. I thought gear indicators were a fairly uncommon thing in modern bikes? Guess that's what I get for thinking. Of course, the GS500 and the GS450 aren't exactly modern, are they... What other Suzooks you got?

Hah.. when I'm sitting at a light, I'll compulsively kick the shifter down at least twice when I'm slowing down, already in first, and I'll usually kick it at least once while I'm waiting, and then I'll kick it again when the light turns green, just to be sure... I feel OCD.. but I'm always in first!

I'm also a compulsive turn signal checker. I randomly click the switch, just in case they're on, and I didn't notice the idiot light. Dumb, I know... but I hate when people leave their signals on, and I don't want to become one of them...

My bike hates going in first I guess. . . step on it .. . stomp on it. . and the shifter won't budge. . so I think I'm in fist .. till I tied to pull out.

My bike does that too, here's the fix.

Put pressure down and hold it as you let the clutch out, you'll feel a little click and it will be in first.
