I believe you were low on gas, and when you pulled the clutch in at high speed the fuel in the tank sloshed fwd and starved the engine. Once the fuel stopped sloshing around, you started up your engine with np. This happens to me all the time when I slam on the brakes coming to a stop with me close to 200miles. I just switch to reserve and fnid a gas tank

The Antibody

That has happened to me. When I began riding, I would pull the clutch going down hill. Twice the engine died. I had plenty of gas. The first time I hit the engine start and it started. The second, Iit didn't start so I just let my clutch back out and it ran fine. Needless to say, I no longer disengage my clutch on the highway. I don't think you have to worry. That was a long time ago, and my bike has always and continues to run like a champ.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Well, if you felt like scaring someone, and then your bike died...that's karma! ;)

I thought the consensus was that we were supposed to be at 1200? That's where I keep mine.. no problems yet.. *knocks on wood*

Yeah, somewhere in there.  The extra 300 isn't gonna kill anyone, though.

Since there's not enough info there for anyone to have any idea what might actually be your problem, I have some half-assed theories.

-You have an aftermarket air filter, but stock jetting, so your engine is running on the edge of too lean.  At high speeds the wind speed over your air filter exacerbates the problem, and your bike already wanted to stall out.  Pulling in the clutch just sped up the sudden death.  This assumes you have the same mysterious stalling-out-only-at-75mph-or-more problem I had.  It also assumes that my recent rejet actually fixed the problem, a dangerous assumption.

- A fault in your kill switch or some other part of your electrical system chose that moment to show itself.  The fact that it happened when you were riding like an idiot and taking yourself out of gear in rush hour traffic, messing with the already dangerously sleepy and unskilled cager in front of you, is pure coincidence.

That's all I got.

I wouldn't look too far into it for now. If it happens again, start diagnosing. It's a carburated engine, it can stall here and there. The sudden drop in RPM's could do that.

yer it has done it 2 times now to lean you say what kinda jet sizes would i be looking for and how far out would i put the mix screws and would there be much move power
thanks

It sounds kind of like a carb issue, there's an air pressure factor from moving very fast, and with the drop in RPM, and closing the throttle your probably just stalling out. Try to keep the throttle open just a little bit when your moving very fast and shifting, and did you use the restrictor that comes with the K&N filter. You should use it if you have not re-jetted and added a larger flowing exhaust.

Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

Mods?  What mods, no really its stock!!

yer i put the restictor in do i need to rejet  if i did how much more power do u think i would get 1-2 hp  :icon_lol:

You would want to find a perfomance full exhaust kit to replace the stock one to go along with the re-jet, and then take out the restrictor,
and you should get about a 4 HP gain which really does not sound like a lot, but it come out to 10%, and 1/10 more power that's done safely to your bike ain't all that bad. You'll notice a difference at mid to high RPM, and it will sound better too.

Deathlucky, I just did my bike last weekend. I have a UNI air filter no restrictor in the stock box and a stock exhaust. I put in 127.5 main jets 40 pilots and one washer on the needle. The bike is so much smoother. It no longer backfires at idle if you blip the throttle and acceleration is much better through the entire RPM range after checkecking my plugs they are a beutiful light tan color which is much better than the almost pure white they were. At highway speeds I was still having problems with fuel starvatioin but that is now fixed I got rid of the frame mounted fuel valve. If you do your carbs be careful in the float bowls. After doing your carbs put them back in without anything else hooked up and run some fuel to them and check your floatheights using Kerry's poly tube method.

OOPS just noticed your riding a 06 different jetting procedure for those. But from what I have read they still suffer from the same problem Suzuki built in to the entire line. Too lean and an unecessarily complex fuel plumbing sytstem.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.
