hey everyone, i just wanted to mention that i have moved on from my 05 gs5 to another bike.  i never had any problems with it or any unreliable issues, but it just wasnt what i wanted from a "sport" bike.  when ever i would ride with my friends, i couldnt keep up, and i felt like it just didnt even look like a "Sweet" bike,  little tires, crazy huge turn markers, super low seat and super high bars, etc. etc.

i dont mean any offense to anyone on here, its just everybody has their own aesthetics and desires, and mine lie in another bike.

i just wanted to thank everyone on here for all of the answers and help, and suggestions, to all of my questions and the wonderful search bar that answered all of the rest.  you GS500 guys, and girls are cool people and i want to thank you all, except for that alpha guy - he was a duck to just about everyone that i saw.  hey alpha, try to not be a duck to everyone and maybe you will have more friends.  i am sorry that we all dont know as much as you, you supersmartwonderfultoughmotorcycleriding dude.   :flipoff:

that, my friend, is not the bike's fault (unless you're talking about high speed straights). I never had trouble keeping up with my friends (all very good, fast riders btw) in the canyons. the tighter the better.

regardless, good luck. what did you or will you buy now?

Keeping up is only a problem above 190kmh otherwise its me not the bike oh except for outright acceleration against big bores can't match that but with the mods its not quite as bad but you have to ask yourself can you flog the GS to its limit if not its a waste of money buying something else if you cant use to its potential :thumb:

I was offered 3200 for my 05 in decent shape.  Grats on new bike what did you get?

Keeping up with my wife's bike is a pain on the highway's.  When she's speeding.  Otherwise can keep up with her pretty much everywhere else.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

Saw in another posts somewhere you got a ZX6R, congrats on the new bike.  You have done the same as most do in buying a more powerful bike to keep up.  I did the same, traded my first CB400 in on a CB750 six months and 6k miles later.  Sometime during the past 22 years and 350k miles I learned to ride in spite of myself.   :)  I still say you will become a much better rider much faster if you stick with the beginner bike till you can keep up with your friends on it before moving up.  I can keep up with almost any kind of bike now in any kind of rational street riding and I'm getting old.      If they pull away on the straights you can catch then in the curves after you learn to ride.   :thumb:

My riding group consist of a 03' CBR600RR, 05' SV650, 04' Kan-o-tuna 750, 05' Busa, 98' ZX6R, 95 Harley Sportster, 02' GSXR 1000, and a Iron Horse Chopper. I have no problems keeping up, and actually I'm usually in the front or middle of the pack, but we don't ride around like a bunch of squids. My buddy on the SV swears I'm quicker from 0 to 60 mph, but he's a noob, and the only one who won't let anybody else ride his bike. And the Sportster guy and myself are the only one's to not drop or dump our bike's since some time in the 1990's.(knock on wood)

( PS-age range of riders 25-42)
Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

Mods?  What mods, no really its stock!!

As far as passing the Liter boys, yes I do it, no it's never in straight aways.

Yes they try. No they don't get by.

Unless they're good, but 9/10ths of them still have dealer plates and see-saw through the corners LOLOLOL

That sounds like you don't know how to ride, not the bike's fault. I regularly ride with liter bikes and supersports and never have a problem keeping up in the turns. Unless you're talking about them pulling away from you in the straights, then it seems like you didn't really learn to ride.

and i felt like it just didnt even look like a "Sweet" bike,  little tires, crazy huge turn markers, super low seat and super high bars, etc. etc.

So it was mainly about the look, huh? Feeling inadequate because of your itty bitty tire, huh? Hahahaha. That's hilarious! By the way, all the "problems" you listed are easily correctable. Tires look too skinny? Do a wheel swap and use a bigger tire or use one of the 150 tires approved for a 3.5" rim. Turn signals too big? Replace them! Low seat? It's gota 31" seat height, most sport bikes have around a 32" seat height. Would you really notice the extra inch? Super high bars? Easily replaced!

Seems to me that you didn't feel "manly" enough with a "little" bike and felt you had to show your friends you had some cojones and buy a bigger faster bike, rather than learning how to ride and showing them you are better them by outriding them.

Eh, no big deal really. He only has 30 some odd posts. He probably doesn't read many of the threads here and doesn't see all the other stuff I reply with. Selective reading, undoubtedly.
