i have a buddy that drags his R1 im not too sure about the sport but he is hes got 4 vehicles. a 91 mustang single turbo on the bottle running 10.9's a 2001 jeep wrangler with a 351 all motor that runs 12 flat and a f250 that runs 16's on 40 inch tires... and a r1 that ive never witnessed at the track but it leaves all the stock sport bikes in the dust... ill be sure to ask him what a good set up is for motorcycle drag and try to get some estimates for ya

I hope you don't plan on racing the GS  you'd get laughed off the track! But I think that there is a 600cc class which is supposedly the most difficult to compete in because of the relatively low power and high RPM required to launch. That would be a relatively inexpensive class to start in and you would learn a lot.

actually i do plan to race my gs, its called  raket racing. hey thanks max i apreciate it

Honestly dude....do you think you should be drag racing?

I used to drag race and it was a blast, nothing like dressing up in womens clothes & riding a bike really fast
The more I learn about women, the more I love my bike.

3 minutes, give or take a few seconds

I'd guess more like 14's... nicky is right though, the GS would do well in bracket racing because it's about consistancy not about speed.

bracket racing has nothing to do with time... its about consistancy.  And I think the GS would do fine at bracket racing.

I say good luck Nick :thumb:  Get good at reaction times, and consistant launches, and you'll have a blast

edit: opps Lima beat me to that one ;)

thanks you guys, i cant wait, just got to find a good set up. quick question the thicknes of the tire woulnd help would it? cause i know an extended swing arm on a gs is a waster of money. So far i have a 15tooth sprocket, exhaust that im putting on tomorrow, and a filter. im thinking a lunchbox and a 14 tooth sprocket (but im not sure how this well handle on the hihway since i do a lot of highway driving). does any one have any other ideas?

I don't, but I do wish you luck and safety, and continue to let us know how this is unfolding. And do more track days! :thumb:

Nope, the bike doesn't make enough hp to have to worry about it. Biggest thing is simply to get consistent.
Keep track of the air and track temperatures, triple check your tire pressure and vary accordingly. Practice practice
practice. Put on a good k&n filter, good exhaust, I run a Yoshimura, loud but good. And make sure you rejet. Again,
it's time to get your jets right. Run premium on the track. Get your clutch and brake adjusted perfectly for you, it'll
help with consistency. Bracket racing is all about being steady, not the fastest. There's a guy here that run an old
station wagon. Run's consistent 16.7's and wins 99% of the time. Remember, a GS is a great bike to start on, cheap,
reliable and if it drops, oh well. :) You didn't just lose $1500 on fairings. So, go for it, always use the right gear
(especially on the track) and have fun. Good luck bud.

14.4 with an F modle and almost empty on gas :) i'v had my gs at the strip a time or two .... just dont have the power or the willing really if you ask me .. i'll stick to the twistys i can keep up with the big liter bikes and looks damn good cuz i can keep up if no pass and stay in front of them with my little gs :) skill is all it is my friends .. nick you have the jardin exuast and the rejet right ? if you do you might slip down in the high 13's like a 13.9 or a 13.8 if you practice enough :) gl let us know how it gose

onefastgs500

buy a two stage rev limiter (stutter box)it will keep you more consistent on the launch and a shift light will keep your shifts more consistent also
get itdialed in and run the same time everytime and youll win money
keep in mind that the bike will get slower as it gets hotter.

Running premium gas won't give any benifits unless you bump up your compression. different octane ratings mean different temperature detonations of the gas
