Well.. actually.. I didn't drop it.. the the A hole that hit my gs500 (year 2000) causes it to hit the ground in the Walmart parking lot.. And then he/she (?) had the nurves to just drive away!!

Anyways.
Damage:
clutch lever goes everywhere.. aka off track aka broken
rear left turn signal
left rear view mirror broken (after market.. ones that go on the end of the hand grips)
left hand grip ripped up some

Any places to get these parts cheap?

thanks

Other than the grip (unless it was custom) all can be had via ebay. If you hate ebay, then you may want to post a WTB (want to buy) in the appropriate section of the forum.

Other than being a jerk, the driver probably knew they hit something, but if the bike was below their vision, it probably didn't register.

That just makes me more of an advocate of mandatory cycle training for anyone that wants a motorvehicle DL.  No question about high school students prior to Driver's Ed. I could care less if they ever rode a bike after the class. The idea is to make the cagers more aware of the cycle rider's world.

I can dream, can't I?  :dunno_white:

Sorry about your bike.

I think there should be mandatory advanced training for folks who want to drive an SUV/Hummer/etc. Then there should be a VERY difficult driving exam and written exam to pass, including NOT knocking that innocent little bike over while parking.  :icon_rolleyes: :icon_twisted:

This is what I've been telling my friends.  EVERYONE should take the MSF course, even if they don't ever get on another bike ever again.

I've been thinking of bringing this issue to the people in legislature in my state

WE may want everyone to take the MSF, but if you think about it, it really isn't practical.

just out of curiosity; where was your bike parked when it was hit?

driver's ED isn't mandatory here in MA. people do it because of the training and (the big benefit seen by most) the insurance discount.

mandatory MSF for everybody won't happen. maybe they'll incorporate motorcycles into driver's ED? that would probably be half-assed and leave people with more questions than answers.

what I think would work well is if, by taking the MSF course, you not only get a 10% discount on motorcyce insurance, but 10% off AUTO insurance as well. This would drive many more people to take the course; regardless of weither or not they actually ride or own a bike.

taking the MSF makes people better drivers for many reasons. When I completed the course & saw my insurance drop, I was actually suprised that my car insurance didnt go down as well.

again, where did you park your bike trend?

The best reason for everyone to take the MSF:  What if yer being chased by criminals, and you need to steal a bike and race through chinatown and off some sweet jumps to safety?  If you take the MSF, you'll konw how to do so, safely.  Think about that.

That's why I park on the sidewalk near the front doors.

Yeah, thought about that.. but then after my bike got hit... What if i did park there, and got hit.. Then insurance said we will not cover you since you were illegally parked.. aka there is a reason why there was a sign there saying 'no parking' :/

Yeah, paint was messed up a little bit.. mainly on the decals on the gas tank.. which i can going to take off anyways. Might have to touch up paint so it doesn't rust.. not sure.

About to go buy a clutch lever off ebay.. and then everything will be fine for now.. and street legal.. still need to get a new rear turn signal light.. but that is just cracked, and still works

l3uddha

I'd be REALLY suprised to hear your car got hit while ON the sidewalk.
I usually park in a painted car space; just well away from other cars, or with my ass sticking out.
or somewhere safe & creative if I can find one.

I asked b/c I think it's funny when people park next to a curb or median, behind where cars back out, & are suprised they got hit.  :dunno_white:

samhkang

usually there are survailance cameras around the wal-mart building facing the parking lot. ask the store if the camera captured anything. Catch the sucker and make them pay!!

Well, I have this thing about WalMart. I never bring my bike there, that parking lot is the epicenter of stupidity for the neighborhood.

This is the case with all Mall Warts.

But If I did you better bet it would be on the sidewalk.

My insurance doesn't cover that stuff anyways.

yeah, I got  a police report done. They are suppoes to be reviewing the tapes today or tomorrow.. the Walmart manager was a nancy boy.. I went and asked him first and he just brushed things off.. .like this happens everyday or something. Oh well, the po pos will hopefully catch the bad guy :) But after getting prices on everything.. It really isn't going to be much to repair everything ... like $80 or so.. Well outside of pain scratches and minor dent in gas tank.. but my bike already had a ding or two and scratches..

Oh well, lesson learned on my part.. Always park away from cars :) prob will start parking on the side walk by the door.. adn if someone complains, I will tell them this story.

thanks guys for the input.

If they find them, press charges, and hopefully they have Insurance. And I always park on the sides of store fronts as long as its not in a fire lane or near a water hook-up for the FD, I've never heard of someone being denied an insurance claim from being parked that way, but I've also never heard of anyone getting there bike knocked over there ether.
Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!
