Get this.  My resume was so solid that I was offered a "better" job in the Sacramento area instead of the SoCal location.  Salesman's job instead of the office manager job which has a lot more advancement potential.  Chris helped make my resume too good and I screwed myself out of my socal job     They said they have no new blood in the wings for management and want to bring me in in a position where I can grow bla bla bla... Base salary is more than I make now and commissions are standard for the industry.  Company truck also included.  


I know shaZam! about Sacramento/the bay area and this is the territory I would be working.

So help me people.  What is Sacramento like? the bay area?  Cost of living?  Any info I should know about?

I have a few days to think it over.   I am going to be burning up the phone lines talking to peeps in the industry scouting this new company and getting feedback.

im moving to sacramento for school if that helps.

http://sacramento.craigslist.com will give you an idea on the housing prices, its definatley cheaper to live there than in So.Cal.. better traffic too. And the tahoe area is close enough (100 miles).

If you move to Nor. cal well I am sure i will see you there then.

Well at least I'll know someone if I go   Its a travelling sales job and I swore I would never do that kind of job (read: thankless).  But it is in an industry I am very familiar with so I know I can do the job.

Also being away 2 or 3 nights a week is a serious negative.  Anne is already saying not to take the job *sigh*  I need to make a worse looking resume...

If you decide to say "no", you might consider letting them know that you need to put your family first, and are committed to your current location.  They may have played-down or omitted mentioning other local job openings because they really like you and want you for the "better" position.  But if it is apparent that relocation is not an option, they may suddenly pull-out another offer for a different, nearer job.  They may even create a position, in order to bring you into the company.

Never underestimate how great you are .

lol, different state than SoCal almost, heh.
Sac is good.  Bloody hot summers, but great access to good riding/driving, recreation and not too far from Bay Area for access to that.  Cost of living pretty decent, cheaper than Bay Area and SoCal.  
It is the state capital afterall, which the rest of us Californians forget sometimes.
My best friend's parents recently retired up there and when we went to visit I was really impressed.  Big city feel without the congested feel.  If it didn't get so hot there in the summer, and I wasn't so addicted to living walking distance to the ocean, I'd move there in a heart beat.  Gold country, Tahoe, rivers!  And affordable compared to most of the rest of Cali, lol.  Oh and alot less polution that So Cal and Bay Area/Central Valley.
But family definitely comes first.

Well already it looks like I will be refusing the job.  After only an hour of discussion Both of us think this wouls not be a god move.  Anne doesn't want me to be gone 2 to 3 nights a week and I don't wan't travelling sales.

You see, they kept talking Corona area for an office job, as in running a parts depot/sales office which I do now.  Then suddenly they hit me with a different job and location.  Travelling sales in NorCal isn't what I desire.  Hell for $100 bucks less a week I can stay here but also work a job that I am not only good at but am great at.  AND less bull$hit.

This is a major disappointment   But you bet I am going to let them know that if the original position they mentioned opens up to let me know.  And I know how to be gracious so I'll let them down easy.  I am still going to mull it over for a few days just in case I have a change of heart.  I know not to make hasty decisions.

Funny, but from friends I got mixed reviews about the resume but from the company I sent it to I got a big  .  They actually asked me what it cost to have it made :lol:

Sacramento...I'd die for sacramento...
I lived there for a while...In the green haven area...Sweet place. Trust me...sac is better.
Of course the so calers would disagree but you are closer to evreything interesting (except Disney land) in sac.
Ask me...I still have flashbacks...
BTW...Sacramento is considered the Nor Cal Area's best kept secret.

srinath I will have to agree with what you said with sacramento.

Coming from the concrete jungle known as LA.. I chose sacramento to finish my education. Though I would have taken UCSB only if they accepted me.. oh well i will do my masters there.

I must say that I like the tree lined city. In terms of heat what they complain about here in LA we got it worse in teh valley's. I am going to see 90's today.. I drove up to sacramento last wednesday and it was nice and comfy in the 80's while my area (glendale) was close to 100.

In 97 I moved to Sacramento...and boy did I love it - and they said it was the sunniest place in the world. in 98 I left and that was el Nino year and it hailed in july...woooohooo.
And...yes on the heat but the funny thing is the place is so dry that in 100 degree weather you still just barely sweat...Very high loss of water from your body but you dont sweat. It evaporates so quick. So people start getting dehydrated and dont even know it. Those that sweat more than normal have said they blister cos the water coming up evaporated right inside their own skin...I said what??? but its true... Other tips for living there...The south side is beautiful and along 5 is better than along 99. if you can afford it...el Dorado hills is heaven. You could live in placerville if you like to commute or if the place you work at is in the east end. Lots of new construction in the north side by the airport and arena. Davis is a huge Univ town (is that where you going Manjul) just west of Sac. Avoid the inner city and you good.

I just have to comment on this as a Sacramento native/resident.  The inner city has recently been redeveloped and is much improved.  Midtown, East Sacramento, and Land Park are some of the nicest areas in the city.  You just have to know which neighborhoods to avoid (Oak Park, for example).

im going to CSUS..

right now I got a place in Antelope and a place near CSUS (about 4miles from school) contending for my attention.. lets hope I get atleast one.

I hear the drive from antelope to csus goes thru some bad neighbourhoods.
