Gettin' sick of this lean jetted BS...

My new exhaust, K&N and new jets are ready to be installed.  I haven't had the time to do any of it because of work.  I can't friggin wait though...because I am getting totaly sick and tired of the stock lean carb jetting on my 05.  Its friggin 90 degrees out right now and I just fired up the bike to leave campus and the damn thing barely runs for 3 minutes.  Its idling at 900 rpm (i have it set at 1350-1400 when warm) and as soon as I give it gas it sputters a bit and doesn't like to rev.

As soon as I get rolling through the MC parking lot, the fuggin thing dies on me and sends my nads directly into the tank as I get lurched forwards while about 234.67 people are watching.  Peice of crap.  I have to ride 2 blocks before it begins to warm up and ride semi-normally.  I know carbed and air-cooled bikes are cold blooded bitches, but give me a damn break!

There's nothing wrong with my bike...except the crappy jetting.  Days like these make me long for a FI 600cc bike in all their smoothness.

Just wait until you get the new jets in.  It'll be like riding a brand new bike.

Indeed, I'm excited.  Does it smooth the throttle response out when the motor is cold?  I can't stand the choppy throttle and inconsistant revs for the first 5 minutes of a ride.

Yes, very much so.  I had the same thing, where it pretty much refused to ride the for the first couple of minutes, had to really coax it down the street.  No, it takes off pretty much from start, and rides smooth all day.

Rejet - yea I do it to a stock bike. Start doing filters and pipe and you're cooked. Definite rejet. Been saying it for like 8 years. And yea they made it worse, not better with the 01+.
Cool.

Hurray for US emissions laws!

I'm an engineer at a gas machinery lab.  We deal specifically with large horizontal engines for the natural gas industry.  We work day-in and day-out trying to improve the efficiency and emissions of large displacement engines.  The government has issued new emissions standards that are strict as hell for these engines and we are helping customers meet those requirements.  We'll work for months to lower the CO emissions of an engine just a few parts per million...and then I see 345 diesel trucks on the roads every day SPEWING black fumes into the air.

Makes my job feel worthwhile.   :icon_rolleyes:

Supposedly, that shaZam! is going the way of the dinosaur (no pun intended) after the new diesel fuel (and engines) come out in 2007.

Yeah we've been doing a lot of work with Caterpillar's diesel engine division.  They gave us a 2 hour long presentation a few weeks ago on their new technology and I was pretty impressed.  They supply motors for over half of the diesel trucks sold in the U.S. these days.

Of course, the lean jetting has nothing to do with the stock filter and exhaust.   :icon_rolleyes:

His isn't on yet. It's preparing to go on and he'll need to rejet accordingly. I assume he just didn't feel like rejetting a stock bike.

Why not?  Runs better that way.   Jetting WAS the stated gripe. :icon_rolleyes:

Lots of eye rolling around here, eh?  I haven't installed anything yet as my first post clearly states.  My jets are sitting right here in front of me but I have them sized according to the pipe and filter.  I have always held out on rejetting because I've been planning on finding a good cheap exhaust system first.  I assure you I'm plenty competent dealing with carburetion and rejetting.

Yo Alpha, I'll have to tell you about my muffler sometime.  It's nothing special...but I'm very happy with it.
