I e-mailed this website, http://www.motoshop.net/ignition.htm, with the following message:

"I see you have on your website the following item:

PUV21926 VH IGN ADVANCER GS500 $44.99

Is this still in stock because it seems V&H stopped manufacturing these and they are very hard to come by. Another website had it on their website but did not tell me this until after one month after I ordered it.

Thanks,

Gordon"

They replied back with this message:

"PUV21926 Ignition advancer is in production with an approximated due date Augusto 30th."

Is this for real?

They're saying its backordered till end of month?  Thats the same as the other company's line. They'll not get it. V&H don't make it. They exist only in Bob Broussard's shop...

They are like...Santa Claus and the Tooth fairy...very real to some, a total fabrication (no pun intended) to others...However those that want the fabrication...are the ones that get the real thing...Makes sense??? and BTW I got mine last week and love it...

Just 'cause they don't make them any more doesnt' mean there still aren't a few floating around.

BTW- Telling a retailer that something is rare and hard to find is a sure way to get them to jack up the price.  :P

You may find one or two floating around as old stock on some shop's shelf, but they're not making them anymore. Apparently V&H hasn't removed them from their parts list though, as I ordered an advancer for my bike from several mail order and internet companies that said they could back order it, only to get an apology and refund 5 or 6 weeks later.

Various companies have been using that "backordered till the end of the month" thing for nearly a year now.  If a place has one in stock, they will sell it to you.  If they don't have it in stock, they won't get one.  Sorry for the bad news.

apparently there is a knock off version made by another company that bought the rights off V&H.  The store in my area says it's available.  but it looks (from the pick) like it's just the plate on the top, not a replacement core which I guess would have to be rebuilt

I think the company is called progress (at least the catalogue said that) but the guy I was talking to said they were expensive and dealt in hard to find parts.
