has anyone ever thought about doing it to their gs.  i got the idea today and have just been pondering for a while any suggestions.   i was thinking about maybe oval pipping to the can and wrapping my gsxr shock with that exhaust wrap, oh yeah and my exhaust pipping too.   moving my license plate down to the lower part of the fender (sorry pablo you might not be able to do this one :nana: )  and cutting a hole in the fender for the can.  now i see a problem with the tail light i am going to have to move it up where the rear handle is.  i think this all i need to do,  all suggestions will help.  :thumb:

More trouble than it's worth IMO. You'll have to do some careful planning to arrange everything so the tire doesn't make contact with the can and that exhaust heat doesn't cook anything when you relocate the pipe. Would look cool though.

The only rewarding will probably be cosmetic, or just your personal tastes being satisfied.  You're really treading into unchartered territory here.  You will probably have to chop up the undertail a little.  It'll be interesting routing around the shock.  You will have to fix it so the shock doesn't allow for contact with the canister, perhaps with shims or something of the like.  You are going to have to be careful about radiated heat.  You could potentially melt important stuff, i.e. your passengers arse, plastics, wiring, etc.  If you move the brake light to right above it, you could melt the whole thing.  You will need copious amounts of heat wrap.  Not saying it isn't doable.  Just be cautious, test it in gradually longer amounts of time, and put a very thorough how to in the mods section!

Good luck!

I have already made some blueprints about this. I am considering it for a winter project. Yes, you'll have to lose the undertail and fabricate a new one. Also have to lose the passenger foot pegs and mounts for a proper fit. I see no need to relocate the brake light. I have a few ideas that I'm playing around with. It has the ability to be really cool. Mondo cool at that! Heat won't be that much of a problem. Insulation is our friend. I know you guys think it will, but there are worse items to figure out than that.

There's not as much room under there as you think once you consider suspension travel. At what point would you turn the pipe underneath the bike? There's not enough room to come through the center where the shock is. If you swing it in too low on the left side it will interfere with the swingarm and/or cook the brake fluid in the line to the master cylinder (very bad things!!). If you start running the pipe up the side of the bike and then duck it under it will look disproportionate. Most of the later model sportbikes that come with or have aftermarket undertail cans available for them have high set subframes. You could cut, bend, weld, whatever - but that's more work than most of us are willing to do for a mod that will offer zero performance gain other than exhaust clearance - which isn't really an issue with the GS. Power to you though if you can figure it all out. It'd look pretty cool.

I have no time to do it - but I think a high mount pipe would look pretty cool - especially if you got the angle right and matched the pipe angle with the pitch of the subframe/bodywork. It'd be much easier to do too.

I thought about that too.

I'm the kinda guy who thinks about everything, and even prepares for some of them. Although I usually get myself all syked up and then forgets about it.

hey Anti could you post some of your ideas  i am curious as to what you are thinking about this project.

i am not too worried about chopping up my bike anyways so some way some how i might make it fit.  as for the arse cooking issue i am a firm believer in heat wrap.

and if i do complete this i will write a how to with pictures

IVE ACTUALLY SEEN IT!!!!

A GUY IN GEORGIA THAT I MET ON THE MUNNIN'S OLD BOARD OFFERED ME A FREE SEAT CAUSE HE HAD NO USE FOR IT.  I WANTED TO COME PICK IT PICK AND CHECK OUT HIS BIKES (HE HAD ABOUT 3-4 GS500)  HIS SON RACED ON 500'S AND HE HAD A FEW PART BIKES.
HIS RACE BIKE HAD AN FABRICATED UNDERTAIL EXHAUST.  THE COOL THING HIS THAT HE USED A DIRT BIKE SILENCER SLICED IN HALF THEN SIMPLY ADDED METAL BETWEEN IT.

NO USE FOR THAT?!   HIS SON LOW SIDED IN A RACE CAUSE HIS STOCK EXHAUST DIDNT GET GREAT TRACTION  WHEN HE WAS DRAGGING IT.   IT WAS FOR A PRACTICAL REASON THAT THEY MADE IT.   NOT FOR SHOW

Thats cool. You guys must be thinking of a different way of mounting it than I. It will come nowhere near the rear shock. I have a V&H full pipe so it will be easy. I would leave the headers in place and a buddy of mine can help me fabricate a new pipe that will twist up and under right after the heal guard. I will cut the can off of the existing pipe and mount it back to the new one. Like I said, the "V" shaped passenger foot peg mounts will be cut off. The entire rear fender will be removed, and a new under-tail will be made. This doubling as a heat shield. I did overlook the brake-line though. Shouldn't be a huge deal. I just need a new place to put the licence plate since the complete fenter will be removed. I guess I could always mount it directly under, but that would screw up the line of the bike.

Now remember, this is all hypothetical. I'm not saying I'm going to actually do it. I have just been thinking and talking about it.

It does look like alot of work.

lets not forget the amount of heat rising under the battery/seat when at a light? Frankly my ass doesnt get cold in winter riding, its everything else. But i was thinking about it too, using 2 smaller tubes and heat sheilding.

The guy had a racing aftermarket tail.  The other bad ass thing was that he had cut off the subframe and frabricated a lighter one.  The second other bad ass thing was that he built that subframe so it was detacheable

I know this ia a very late post...okay....several years but I have an idea for the exhaust if you are till trying Anti......isnt the exhaust 2 into 1....so couldnt you keep it two from the headers with the pipe running down both sides of the bike like it is already on one side and then join them under the tail and reattach the can....that way it will still be under the tail but not much modding done underneath......just a thought.
