Has anyone heard of or used this product? http://www.rusteco.com/ It appears to be easier and safer than the usual pain in the a$$ products. There are articles from a few motorcycle mags that say it is the real deal.

Thanks,

I can tell you right now how to make your own rusteco.
Walk into your nearest walmart and go down to the beverage section and buy this new product they have come out with, called "Coca Cola". if you really want to be cheap - OK and we all do, buy the generic. Now of course if you prefer you could buy pepsi as well. But if you like the taste of pepsi, chances are that you wont like generic - those usually taste like coke. Then of course seal up the tank and fill it with coke. it will eat the rust and leave eveything else un touched. Its slow - 24 hours I believe. Add in a bunch of lemon juice and maybe it will go faster.
The problems are atleast with that method, you need to get the sugar out and no diet coke wont help you, you gotta get the chemical sugar out, and then still need to coat it. All you did was to eliminate the first step - aka acid etch. BTW a 2 cup dose of muriatic acid will clean it out just as well with no sugar to worry about ... but rusteco is sugar free  ... anyway - coke will work just pretty well.

I went to the local auto store and bought whatever-brand "rust remover gel".  It's just phosphoric acid (the "active ingredient" in cola that srinath is talking about), and it worked great.  From what I've heard, muriatic acid works better and is cheaper, although I think the fact that phosphoric acid (and cola) is slower might be considered an advantage.
