Hi guys and gals,

I want to buy an Arai Quantum, anyone got one? What do you think?

Also, I need a U.S or Canadian online retailer that will ship to Australia so I can buy it, I need a new helmet ASAP!

Any information would be great!

Nice helmet.  Chin vent works well, but other vents just seem noisy to me.  Chin spoiler is functional and helps deflect wind from your chin/neck.  I don't like the Arai's non ratcheting visor - At slower speeds I often want to ride w/ the visor cracked an inch, but it snaps shut.  It's by far the most comfortable helmet for me - I could wear it all day... but that depends on your head.  Most of the big name helmets are going to be pretty good - If I could have found a cheaper helmet that fit me as well, I would have gone w/ that.  It's all about the fit.

I don't think Arai's are available online anymore.  Or at least they aren't supposed to be.

Have you been to a cycle store and tried on helmets yet?  Just measuring your hat size isn't enough really.  It might save you the hassle of having to send the helmet back if it doesn't fit right.  Helmets are really tight the first time you put them on though... the padding eventually conforms to the shape of your head.

being able to take out the pads and wash them is a pretty good plus on a helmet, keeps it from smelling... umm well used.   I think I heard something about Arai clamping down on online resellers in order to make sure people went into stores and tried helmets on before buying, in order to ensure proper fit (and ensure customers paid the higher prices!) Is that true?

When I tried helmets on, I found that I didn't have a typical 'Arai head' even with their 3 different helmet shapes.  My Shoei Z-II fits very well.  Cheaper too... I don't think Arai's are $1-200 US better than a Shoei.

Arai's are occasionally available online (I've heard, never seen) but Arai does not allow their retailers to sell online as said above-for fitting reasons. They want to make sure you are fit by a retailer staff member. They are pretty harsh on retailers they find selling online. The dealer that told me this also said they couldnt even sell orders by phone.

A friend has had Arai, Shoei, HJC and just now bought an Icon helmet and said to me that the Shoei was quieter than the Arai and that HJC was substantially louder than Arai. Venting is the reason.

I have an Arai Quantum/f and love it because it fits right. Visors pop in and out easily too. Love the chin spoiler that you can pull down. I can crack my visor a bit, but not an inch, just enough to defog inside.

Local guy has last years model Arai's for $200 and less. Check your local dealers for last years models. Ebay sometimes also has last years models for sale.

Most important thing with any helmet is proper fit. Period. Arai's are good inthat the various models have different shaped shells. Your head may not fit a quantum helmet...you really have to go locally to at least fit them.

Thanks guys, I have tried it on at my dealer, the quantum and the RF-900, and they are the same price here in Australia... for me the Arai fit the best, but I am not sure if I had the right size on the Shoei, I will try it again before I buy.

The reason I want to buy U.S is once again its the cheapest - the RF900 is AUS$799 here at my dealer, in a Chimera 1 Replica, and I can get it shipped from www.helmetharbor.com for AUS$584 - AUS$215 saving!

I would say if you couldn't get the Quantum online, perhaps talk to one of us Americans and get a number for a good helmet shop here.  Call, explain your situation and see if they can ship you one if it costs less.  by the way...  helmets online are much less costly than in stores

I wouldn't suggest sending money for us to buy one though... next thing you know, their GS will have many cool and expensive mods    hehe
