Hey, though I would spread the word. Talk about a crap intro to biking. Originally on the UK GS500e forums:

http://www.gs500e.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=7112

Poor sod comes on asking what we thought of the gap between his rear seat n grab handle. Some of the more attentive members spotted a few anomalies on the bike....you could play spot the part with this machine!

Supposidly a 2002 GS500e, it had a pre 2001 frame & clocks, 2004 fuel tank and the panels were held on with cable ties since the frame doesn't have the mounting points it needs for those panels.

He'd bought it from DK Motorcycles who are appearing to have a very poor rep now.

This kid has to be the most famous 17yr old provisional licence holder ever mind. The thread is being followed on about 30 forums, a police officer on one of them has taken the bike down the forensic lab and has hinted that the results are interesting. Nicely, he's going to take a trip down to the dealer on Saturday with the kid to see if they will refund him his money....the polite way!

Figured some of you may be interested. Figured this was the best place to put it incase some of the replies are a bit 'colourful'!

i still can't get over that a major bike dealer thought they could sell a dodgy bike with hand stamped frame numbers a bits from different bikes and expect to get away with it,
there is over 10000 views on that thread and growing daily, dkmotorcycles is going to lose so much business over this, haha that'll teach them
pod filters, costum r6 quill exhaust(no baffles)40/140 jets, heavy duty springs, sv650 rear shock, gsxr srad tail, bandit 600 4.5 inch rim with 150 tyre, gsx twin disc front end "1995 pocket rocket"  ridden by a kiwi in scotland

good read, i hope he gets his money back, and a bit extra for his troubles, or he could sue them and have tons of money

WOW, I am in the middle of reading this. I cancelled my plans for the afternoon. How could such a large dealership risk their business on such silliyness. They had better get busted bad, and pay for not only the bike and all expenses, but for hardship as well. Get 'em Sean!

Can't believe a motorcycle mech do not know that the side panels were  not supposed to be held on with zip ties?  Thats total BS, the dealer knew what they were doing and do not want to accept blame.

Glad he got is money back but he should have gotten more.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Oh, right, I wasn't try to imply anything dodgy was going on.  I thought it was kind of cool.

Also, am I the only one enjoying all the British-ims?  Like "If its nicked you could loose it totally, if you try and sell it you could either get nowt or be done for selling an iffy bike."  Hehe.

dk's final reply after the thread was closed he started another one, seems to have a consiounce, cant let it ldie out can he

Hello everyone, thank you to the people who made constructive comments on this matter. I just want to address a few of the points made before I finally put this to bed. You all know Sean has been offered his refund, minus the £100. Apparently his father was very happy with this, and the fact he gladly took this offer suggests that the people on this forum know the truth, but not the whole truth. All I can say is that the Holts were told that the bike had been in an accident and repaired from the very beginning, all of the usual checks were made via HPI etc. I don't know why the the problem wasn't identified before the bike was sold, the workshop certainly don't have the time to assess the legality of every bike that is serviced, that is not their job. Perhaps we should have not accepted it in part exchange in the first place, perhaps the person who took it in should have been more vigilant.

Because DK is so big, people see us as a soft target, people have changed their mind about their bike, seen it cheaper somewhere else or changed their mind about the colour etc. When we tell them that because of the extra name on the logbook their bike isn't worth quite what they paid for it they sometimes make some far-fetched claims about their bikes. One guy deliberately crashed his bike claiming it was our fault- it was only his when his own wife grassed him up that he was caught out. When the Holts wrote to us claiming the bike was a ringer, we naturally in the first instance referred them to the only people who can legitimately assess wether a bike is a ringer or not- the Police. As soon as the Police contacted us with the confirmation, we tried to contact the Holts with an offer.

I have personally seen the owner of DK commit acts of almost ludicrous generosity. People have ridden away from DK with bikes worth 3 times the value of the bike they originally bought. If Sean had been smart about this, he could have come away with a CBR600 or something similar, we have plenty of them and I know that when I was 21 I certainly didn't dream of riding a GS500E....

Instead, members of this forum have emailed us and threatened to beat us up, burn the building down, ruin the business etc. Members of this forum have threatened to kill the owner, kill his children and burn his own house to the ground. He is only human and in the end I think it wound him up a bit in the end. Even if the Holts did not instigate this, the Holts themselves proved to be 'difficult' and instead of coming away with a really nice bike Sean has come away with what he is entitled to and nothing else. Sean was always going to get a refund, he is entitled to one under the law, I think all the 'help' from the members here probably did more harm than good.

I have never bothered to spend any time on forums like this before, I'm afraid I prefer to ride bikes rather than talk about them. Maybe it's the way I was brought up, but I wouldn't dream of writing some of the abusive and almost deranged comments I have seen in the last few days, some people should feel ashamed of themselves. DK Motorcycles have acted responsibly, held their hands up to this and taken a lot of abuse from people who have been making some completely unfounded claims based on nothing more than thin air. I'm surprised that the administrators let it go on for as long as they did.
