Fairings are expensive things...

I pose a question:

Would you pay the same amount as a SV650 for a faired version of a GS500 even if it was fuel injected and had slightly fatter tyres?! I know that I wouldn't!

I would think thay could come in at a price under $5000 -they would almost have to.

So for another $1000 you dont think people would move towards the SV650? Your getting a lot more bike for your extra $1000, in my opinion!

Naked for me thats the beauty of the gs to see the motor

I thought the GS was geared to beginers... you don't want a full faring on a beginer bike!

Well, the ninja250 seemed to do well with that handicap.
But I agree, they should install the fairing at the 1000-mile service :)  . And make it pop on and off quickly with only a hex wrench.

I don't think it would cost too much to add; fiberglass is cheap.   The windscreen would cost as much as the fiberglass.  If the aftermarket folks can sell them for $700, then produced in-quantity, I don't see it raising the cost (to Suzuki) by more than $200.  $300 if you count shipping and dealer assembly cost.

As far as fuel injection, it might actually save them some money, if Suzuki can reduce the number of parts they sell.

Naked Shmaked.  That fairing is cool.  If Zuki were to make a fully faired GS, I hope they make that fairing a universal fit for the previous years of GS's.  Same for the headlight....I wouldn't mind driving a mini-gixxer around..hehe

Fuel-injected though?  Come on.  On a GS?  Maybe we can retro-fit that too.  Here's hopin'.   ;)

OEM fairings are usually fiber reinforced ABS plastic.  The injection molds that are used to produce all the parts for a model specific fairing would be close to $250,000, if not more.

"IF" this actuallly comes true, right now its just rumor and wishful thinking.  As much as I love the GS, I don't see why they are reintroducing it when they have the SVs, unless Suzuki thinks that it is in the niche with the EX250s and 500s while the SV is more in the 600 class.
Maybe they looked at the sales figures for both Kawi and Suzuki dealers and saw a jump in EX sales without the GS there. Who knows...

I would imagine the fairing will be TCP's version. It was offered as an OEM fairing in Europe.
What would be cool (but is pure wishful speculation) is if with the Kawi/Zuki "cooperation" going on, that the GS & EX got melded into the same bike just rebadged for each make similar to what they have done in the dirtbikes. GS frame with an EX engine rapped up in new bodywork would be sweet!

But will it happen?  Nope :nana:

Yeah, thats cool. I like the naked look though. Thats why I bought a GS500, not a Ninga500. It would be cool though.

I think something 600/650/1200'S would look ok...but anything further would just be too much.

However, I think the little scoop at the bottom would then be needed...whatever that is called.
Cheers!

Bummer.

The GS doesn't need a fairing! It needs an 8 valve head, liquid cooling, and fuel injection.

Throw on a better front end and a real shock and yer done.

They could do all of this with a "parts-bin" approach.

Bastards...

Nice work John.

I'd be nice to think that Suzuki realized there IS a market for the gs500 (as there is for the EX250/500) and reimport it. But, given the huge success of the sv650, why should they...

On a side note, Holeshot will not be developing any exhausts for the gs500 as I had talked to them about...too much interest in developing new parts for the 03 sv650/1k. Too busy with that and no real market for his products for a gs500 (i.e. parts would be too expensive for the market).
