wrong part#'s

I got my Mikuni jets in the mail today for a stock F model:
#20 pilots  Part# (004-298)
62.5 mids  Part# (004-270)
132.5 mains are the wrong thing entirely  part #(004-298)

What came in the mail looked exactly like the mids, what I have in my carbs is a long cyclinder the jet needle slides into with a round o-ring on the threads (size marked 127.5) the thread diameter is even much larger.  I double checked the part # against sudco.com and it matched up for a 132.5 main, but looks entirely different than whats in my carbs.  I took the original part numbers from this forum, but can't find the thread.  Just don't want anyone to make the same mistake.  First thought was that the main was screwed into the cyclinder, but didn't want to twist the shaft.

Kerry, do you still have your carb diagram from bikebandit,?  I went to put a #4 washer under my needles and there was already one there under the teflon ring, wanted to see if this was normal.
Bike runs great with the two new jets but was slightly lacking at WOT.

Srinath, any idea of what I need to order.  I don't see anything at sudco that looks like what I need...

Hi-T

I ride an '01, and it looks like you got the right part numbers.  It's interesting that they would be wrong....  unless something changed or they sent you the wrong ones??  You may want to pull the jets and go to the dealer and match them up that way. And for the record- number 4 washers won't fit newer carb.  I had to take my needle and washer set up to a couple different hardware stores to match the right size.

Yeah, I picked up a bag of #4's from Lowes and they wouldn't fit on the needle.

on your '01 did the main jet screw into your needle jet?  The way mine looks it's as if I have 2 pilots instead of a pilot, mid, and main- kinda wierd.
I'm beginning to think my main jet has to come unscrewed from the needle jet somehow.

I'm an idiot,  I was too afraid of destroying the jet holder to just apply enough force to unlodge the main jet from it.  It looked like one piece, but was actually two. All is good.  Bike runs fine

all I can say is thank God for the search button.
I had the same problem & was trying to figure out wtf I did wrong...
when nothing was wrong at all :thumb:

#4 only refers to the size of the hole in the washer.  Different brands might have different outside diameters or thickness.

If your changing all 3 jets on the 04+ carbs you don't need any washers.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

#4 washers work just fine in the 89-00 carbs as long as you get the right OD.  The hole size doesn't matter.  You're using it as a spacer.

it really depends on the mods & jets you buy.
for example I have K&N pods but stock exhaust, 145/62.5/20 jetting.
5k to redline pulls really well, but 2k-5k is boggy. I'm gonna get some washers today & try shimming the needles to see if that helps. It's most likely an improper jet size but using washers is a quick, cheap, and easy fix. I'm also going to take the carbs off again and drill out the air mixture screw caps... because I was rushing and forgot to  oh well; once you do it the first time it's a friggin sinch to do it all again.

what a pain in the A$$

I searched for 3mm washers & couldnt find any around me; not even at Lowes, which I cant stand going to!
Lowes DOES have the #4 washers so I picked up a pack of 8.

come to find out, the #4's they sell dont even fit around the needle; the darn hole is too small. the overall diameter of the washer was slightly bigger than the c-clip and stock washer around the needle as well, but I figured what the hell  :dunno_white:

I even brought that tiny stock washer for comparison. I could see that the hole was a teenie bit smaller but I went with it anyways.

oh well... a waste of $ .75.

so my search continues for these "imaginary" 3mm washers. ;)
so when you look at the label on the pack, is 3mm the same as M3? the metric sizes go by "M#", like the American sizes go #4, #5, etc.

Well, I bought a 100-pack of #4's at Fastenal.  They were a bit (though not excessively) loose on my needles.  However, after putting them between the c-clip and the plastic doughnut, they seemed very stable, and the bike likes them just fine.
