Does anyone know where I can get a set of high performance cams for my gs 500f? I have been looking for ever and all I can find are the megacycle cams for the 89 models and nobody can tell me if I can use them on my stock cores.

You can use them on a 2006? That is very good news to me.

The engine has been essentiall unchanged since 1989, so there should be no reason why you can't use them. Hell, even the '89 engine was designed off of a 1970s unit.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I was wondering about cams as well, I'd be interested to hear how it works out, possibly a dyno run before and after, but seat of the pants is good enough. Are you building up a new engine with headwork and other goodies too or are you just swapping cams? Let me know how it turn out and have fun O0

I was planning on possibly going with a jardine, jets, K&N, cams, overbore, removing the counterbalancer, secondary oil punp, port and polish, 160 rear tire, Raask rearsets, R6 tail fairing, and a GS 500R kit. I know it is a little overdone but I want all I can get on my baby. I do believe it will turn some heads. At least with my new found gs buddies. I will post some pics as soon as she is on her way.

You're doing all this work to you 2006 bike? For all that work it may be easier to buy a used enging and build it up. Then you wouldn't be off the road with a torn apart bike and  when you blow it up you can put your low mile stocker back in and be back on the road in no time. A cam swap alone would probally only take a couple hours and you wouldn't even need to pull the engine. Whatever you do, good luck.

Yup, you could buy a 90's GS for $1,000 that needs a motor rebuild and save yourself $4,000.

that does sound like a lot to do to a bran new bike.  I like the idea of getting an older engine and having that one overhauled and placed in your bike.  here is a link to an engine that is on ebay 150 plus 125 for shipping.  It looks like it has been sitting a while but if you are going to do all that this would probably be the better idea.  all it needs is carbs.

For what all that stuff would cost, you could just by lee's bike, found here: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=28804.0

First off that bike is freaking sweet! I had a feeling when I bought my bike that there would be a slew of others that I would also want. However I have always prefered to spend my money on the bike not the bike's insurance. I would rather have a 10,00.00 bike that is competely custom than spend 10,00.00 on one just like everyone elses.I just feel better about spending money on something unique. Speaking of which I have heard of people getting 75hp out of a highly modded GS. I would love to get 75hp.Anyone have any info on that?

I am also open to anyones ideas. so let me know what you've done and hoe it turned out please.

Also if anyone has any tips that could help me, or some parts to help with the project please PM me.

OVER COMPENTATING????? WHAT????

jason gs500

OH Yeah! I was going to get a used engine first. I plan on doing the engine peice by peice and I love riding to much to have it down that long.

Lee's race bike has about three dozen elephants worth of cash thrown at it and it scrapes in at about 60 wheel horsepower. I highly doubt anyone will ever get 75HP out of a GS motor.

you could turbo it... that'd get you 75 hp for only a couple g's worth of investment... it's been done before... hell, you could get well over 100hp for a brief period of time if you turbo'd it

some guy cut a GSXR head in half and bolted it on and made a good amount of power... don't remember how much and don't know if it was as much as you want because I remember it was still slower than a SV650... in anycase, you'd have to do a retarded amount of machine work and blow a ton of cash to get this motor to make anywhere near that much power NA.

Ah, I figured he meant NA, but with a turbo, yeah.

The guy with the GSX-R head was Bob Broussard. Hell, I think Lee did it on his race bike too. 60 wheel horsepower is about all you can expect from the GS engine (and that's with 600 something cc big bore in it!)
