Ooops, dropped my bike!

Well I knew eventually this would happen but didn't think it would happen when I was basically going ZERO mph!

I was coming up to a red light and I rolled the stop.  I would like to blame my husband who rolled it before me and went.  But really, it's all my fault!  I should know better.  Anyway, the traffic in the opposite direction had a green left arrow but there were no cars.  Hubby went, so I was about to go to, except when I did a quick check to the left, I saw a cop car and thought, better not go, so I stopped, but I already had momentum to keep going (since I was illegally about to "roll" the red light) and then when I stopped it was sort of quick and the bike just went....BLEEP.  Fell over to the right.

Luckily I am totally fine (except for a bruised ego and feeling like a total loser!) and the bike is fine too.  No damage except a little scratching on the end of my handgrip.  I was able to pick it up and by the time I picked it up and got back on, I realized the cop had pulled over and was standing right next to me asking if I needed help and I was okay.

I was sort of frazzled, and even as he was asking me if I was okay I was kind of dazed and looking over my bike more worried if I had messed it up!

Good thing the bike doesn't weigh a ton and I was able to pick it up.

This was at the beginning of our ride, on our way to get gas.  I am happy to report the rest of the ride was fine, fun, and without incident.  We headed down towards San Diego and went to Seaport Village and then drove along the Harbor and to Mission Bay and then back toward home.

We took a few pics when we stopped at Mission Bay and I finally put a picture up in the Wall of Fame.

It sucks dropping the bike, I dropped my Honda F4i trying to wheel it into my garage like they do in motoGP - just over balanced to the side I was not on and bam, on the ground!

Bikes should come with self deploying training wheels!

Glad your bike and you are fine!

Guess the wheel locked and threw you off balance.  I've done that before too.  You did well to pick it up - I find it a real struggle.

Glad everyone is okay!

~0 MPH is embarassing, but if you're going to drop it, it's the best speed to do it at.

Glad you and the bike are OK. It can happen to anyone.
My wife and I just got back from holidays. We were out on our bicycles and there is a long steep hill near the cottage where we were. She made it to the top of the hill and stopped for a drink of water and as she was putting her foot down she just fell over. The first thing she did was look around to see if anyone had seen her fall. She just lost her balance for a second and that's all it took.

Check this link out (it may have been postd before)

I've been told on another list that this technique is demonstrated at Beemer rallies all the time, with small women picking up huge bikes.

I did it with my GS (doh!) and it was  just about effortless.

I saw a very small guy lift a Goldwing like that one night.  I (unfortunately) know from fitst-hand experience that this method works well.

Hate when that happens! better at zero mph than rolling though!
