Is that a brand or just the type of heavy nylon?

jazerr

I'm guessing its the heavy nylon. I'm looking around the web and seeing it in all different brands.

so, I guess more specifically, are jackets made of cordura any good? How far can I slide before I hit skin?

Get something that's textile or mesh with leather reinforcment in the important areas. I can't recommend my GX-Air highly enough. It's mesh, so it breathes and keeps me cool in Florida/Georgia summers. It's got a zip in rain liner, and a snap in thermal liner, so that when (if) it ever gets cold in Georgia, I can warm up. It's got leather and CE armor in the forearms, elbows, shoulders, and back, along with 2 back protectors. It survived my 30mph highside (i.e., I flipped over my handlebars at ~30mph last week) without a scratch. I have a single bruise on my back/ass where I landed, and that's it.

For websites, I'd HIGHLY recommend newenough.com, I love that place.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

If you have to get Cordura, mesh or textile, make sure it's at least 500 denier (500 threads per inch).  http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=11184.0
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

I noticed an article in a moto mag yesterday (can't remember which but Performance Bikes mayhap?) that tested leather vs cordura.  They basically came to the determination that it was fairly equal overall.  With leather preferred if you go down.

Anyway, my GX-Air has been on backorder for 2 months.  Anyone have a local large in black they'd be willing to pick up for me?     Starting to annoy me and my Fieldsheer mesh is starting to get a little chilly.

Damn, if you'd let me know about 3 weeks ago, I'd have been able to do it for ya.
