Laid it down last night, low speed

Hey all,

Last night on a ride up to Virginia City, I came into a hairpin turn too fast.  I was on an unfamiliar road, and it took an unbelivably sharp turn on a grade.  I was going to fast for not knowing the road, and went down on the right hand side (the side I was leaning close to the road with).  First time going down.

I've got a couple scrapes and a sore shoulder, but at least it's the jacket that's shredded and not my skin.  +1 for the gear.

Only a couple things wrong with the bike.  The clamp thing that holds the left exhaust pipe to the engine is just sliding around now, I have no idea where the 2 bolts went.  The threads in the engine don't appear to be stripped at all, so i'm puzzled.  I'm ordering two 07120-08403 bolts.  Also the round thin piece of metal that says Suzuki on it got scraped off the engine (where it coveres the ignition timer thing).  What's the best way to stick it back on there?  Lastly, my handlebars seem a little off kilter by a few degrees with respect to the wheel.  Where do I adjust that, or is something bent and I'm screwed?

On the plus side, I found out the bike is really easy for me to pick up.

Glad you're allright.  Handlebars can be straightened like you would a BMX bike, by squeezing the front tire between your knees and jerking on the bars, however, you'll need to prop up the front end and loosen three of the triple clamp bolts.  Search "straightening front" for more details.
Search "Suzuki logo" for tips to stick it back on,  I'm not sure myself.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Glad you're okay. That's scarey.  :o What type of gear were you wearing and how did it come through? reusable or time to get new stuff? The suzuki enblem just glues on with 3M adhesive. Any double sided tape, epoxy, or hot glue should work just fine. As for the header blots, that's kind of weird but there's no reason to order new ones and be off the road for days, just go to the hardware store. It's just a bolt, nothing special. As for the handlebars, you could probally straighten them, but it's a perfect excuse to get clip ons or clubmans :icon_mrgreen: Anyways, good luck and ride safe O0

glad you werent hurt worse. make sure the crooked handlebars arent crooked forks. check closely at the exhaust mount to engine-I'm guessing the bolts sheared off and the rest of the bolt is still in the engine...

I left my pants at home cause I left in a hurry  :cookoo:

My Joe Rocket Atomic 2 textile jacket was ok, the shoulder is shredded down through the armor, I'll be getting a new one next season.  New helmet is on the list too, kind of a quarter sized scuff on the side with a small chunk missing.  Boots and gloves are fine.

I'm not sure how to check if the forks are bent.  They move up and down ok.  I'm not sure how to tell if the handlebars are bent either.  They seemed a little off-kilter when I ride, but when I eyeball them they look ok.  I'll try the BMX trick to see if I can get it to feel right.  I rode it to work today, it feels like it leans a little to easily when I corner, but I can't tell if that's just psychological.

Pantablo-My first thought was that the heads of the header bolts were sheared off too, but they are seriously just missing out of there.  I can see the threads inside the hole, and they appear to be perfectly intact.  Bolts are just gone.  Also the RPM cable came out, but the threads were fine on both the male and female ends.  I just had to screw it back in and it works.  Definately weird.  :dunno_white:

Anyway, I really appreciate the concern and advice I've gotten.  Thanks guys!
