I took the basic rider course earlier this year and bought my first bike, a 2002 GS with only about a month ago.  It was hardly used, it only had 1300 miles on it.  I've added about 400 since then.  The bike is great and so is this site!  The depth of knowledge here is incredible and the search feature is amazing.  I haven't had to ask one question yet!

I have done all of the regular maintenance, oil change, etc.  Anyway, I searched, but I don't see too many people powder coating at home.  I have the equipment to do it, so I thought I would share what I'm working on.

The side and center stands were really starting to rust.  I removed the side stand, blasted it and powder coated it satin black.  I plan to do the center stand, but it looks like the exhaust has to be removed to get the right bolt out.

well I dont know what he is using, but they sell powder coaters from harbor freight.  All you need is an oven to bake it. 

I don't think my rims will fit in the oven - and I want to get rid of the white whells haha.

Maybe we can convince him to power coat for everyone 

I have the powder coat kit from Eastwood - www.eastwoodco.com.  I think it retails for $100.  I've never used the one from Harbor Freight, but I heard it's not very good.  Basically you need the powder coater, the color of powder you desire, compressor and a dedicated oven.  Don't use your house oven, or you won't be around very long!  I have even used a toaster oven for small parts.  It would best to use a blast cabinet to remove the old finish.  I've used stripper, but it doesn't compare to blasting it, especially if you're dealing with rust.

Thankz for the info and link.  I also didn't think it would be that cheap.
