Hi,

If I can finish the brake job tomorrow, I think I will take my GS to a coin wash to clean up the dirt and brake fluid.  Since I live in an apartment, I don't have a hose to clean my bike.  Is it a problem if I clean my bike at a high pressure coin wash?  Any tips on how to proceed?  Are there any parts of the bike that I should not spray at?  Thanks!

I saw a show on discovery channel on how they test bikes, and what they do to them to make sure they are water proof. They put them in a high pressure wash bay for like 24+ hours and make sure the thing still works fine, no electrical problems etc.

I would not suggest putting the jet spray up the exhaust pipe or anything like that... but I spray the hell out of my dash and turn signals etc I have never had a problem.

Wash away - you wont hurt anything! Trust me!

I would stand back a ways and do it or if possible dont use the high pressure side of it. Usually there is a rinse or light rinse on them that is less pressure and has soap and just water.

Be very careful using a high pressure hose around the wheel bearings, swing arm and rear supension pivot points.  You can easily introduce water into / displace grease in the bearings, with the expected results.  

Similarly, take care around the fork seals, and try not to blast the electrics.

Also, the engine paint doesn't stick too well to the motor.  You may find that a high pressure jet will blast flakes of it off.

Apart from that - it will make the bike nice and shiney!

Watch out for the starter cover on the trans under the carbs.  If you have ever had to replace a starter you will notice that the cover is held on with two bolts and no sealer.  The hole in the trans case looks like it goes to the oil sump.........
