Oil temp/pressure gauges

Has anyone intalled these on their bike? I was considering doing it, I know the manual shows a location to hook up a pressure gauge, and for a temperature gauge I could drill and tap into the oil pan to install the sender there. I was just wondering if anyone has done this and had any luck/problems with it.
Thanks

Sounds like a new adventure to me Dean!

Be sure to take pictures and write it up. You could be famous and end up with a FAQ -- that's nearly GS immortality.

Somewhere buried in the board is an oil temp gauge that was configured to replace the dipstick.  You will probably have to try several key words.  I have'nt seen a pressure gauge mentioned.  There should be plenty of places to connect one.  Probably want a digital so you can get a mini display.

I thought about doing the dipstick temp gauge, but it would be kind of hard to see while riding. I was thinking it'd be cool to have the gauges above the tach/speedo. digital would be kind of cool but anolog would match the tach and speedo.

I think electric would be better than mechanical though so that the oil and temperature lines don't have to flex.

Mightn't there be a combination gauge?  2 sensors in one?  I'd like to have something like that, since I'm not too keen on drilling and tapping the oil pan....
Sorry, I won't answer motorcycle questions anymore.  I'm not f%$king friendly enough for this board.  Ask me at:

Been there, done that ... nearly died when the oil guage blew and sprayed my right side and the rear tire with oil ... and lost my favorite truck and had an injured wife in the series of misadventures that followed.
Then went ahead and did it on the other GS I had at that time, only to have the guage lose all its damn glycerin and that made it waver like crazy with each stroke of the bike.
BTW temp guage should be OK for that ... but dipstick or the dual guages that have temp and pressure are a better idea for that. I believe there is a weksler thermometer that can go in the dipstick hole. Get a 7 inch silicone filled oil thermometer.
Cool.

Yeah, I thought about the pressure gauge blowing up but I think if I go with an electric pressure sensor, it wouldn't be any more likely than the original oil pressure warning light sender to explode. It probally would make more sense to go the dipstick roue with the temperature gauge, just to keep it simple, but I'd still like a dash mount oil pressure gauge.

This might be kind of cool, if it works. Big tach, shift light, oil temp, oil pressure, and water temp. I realiz we don't need the water temp but it can't hurt  :dunno_white: maybe hook it up as a second oil temp just so it moves. I just don't know if it's electric or mechanical.

I think that dipstick is too long it says 290mm and the stock one is 160mm or so and can't be too much longer. I did find a temperature sender that replaces the oil drain plug though. That would mean that I don't need to pull the oil pan to install it and I could have a dash mount.

Ducati-nolan,
Check the ebay store. They give instructions on the length of the dip stick and thread size.
I believe that other bikes have the same dimension of the GS500...
