...I've been around the PA Grand Cayon a bunch of times.  There are some good roads around.  All of which make for very long rides.  For most people I would guess that doing it all in one day might be a bit much.  I can cook up a route with some different milages, starting around Williamsport.  There are some scenic spots to hit, and there are plenty of camp grounds around if people want to do that.  It will be getting towards the end of the camping season so I would expect them to be fairly empty...

I havent been up to the PA grand canyon yet, so sounds good to me!

Me too, I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Boooooooo!!!! I saw the pics of your bike and in all honesty it looks purely cosmetic.  Do the forks or frame look bent?  If not, just clean off the mud and get a new set of cheapie bike master bars.  A few scratches and a couple of dents shouldn't stop you from coming.

In any case, I'm glad you didn't get hurt too bad

It is more than just the bars  god I wish it was, the controls (directionals and horn and such) are destroyed my perch is broken and the choke is cracked, I have to examine the tank a bit more but there may be a puncture. Hopefully it won't take too much work but I'm done for the season...if you guys plan on camping..I might come in a cage though and hang out

Hi Jules et al,
So have we figured out where the ride will begin? Where will people be staying, for those staying overnight?
Can someone tell us the plan so we can make plans? :)
Thanks!

Yes... I'm working on it.  Been out of town the last few days.  I'm assuming we will be starting near Williamsport.  Probably very close to the intersection of I80 and I180 since most people will be coming from Jersey and points east.

Is everybody up for a long ride after they get here? Possibly ~200 miles?  Spread out over the entire day with a rest break about every hour and a lunch break at noon?  How far is everybody riding to get here?  What time do we want to start the ride?  I want to make a nice route to get so good roads in, but I don't want to where people out.

I need to look for some camp site/ hotel info.  I mean not like I have ever camped around here.  Why would I camp in my own backyard?

More info to come...

For those that would like to meet up with me in Allentown to ride out to Williamsport, it's about a 2 hour ride. I was thinking those who want to meet me at Kmart could meet at 9 am and be out by Williamsport by 11-11:30 depending what time we leave Kmart.

For anyone meeting up with me at Kmart on Tilghman Street in Allentown... here is a link with the address and a map on it.

http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&q=kmart&near=Allentown,+PA&cid=40608333,-75466667,15593043028636628&li=lmd&z=14&t=m

Paul, where is a good place to meet up in Williamsport? Is that a good time for everyone to meet there? (By 11:30 am?) Then we can either have lunch there or ride for a while and then get lunch somewhere else.

I am up for riding to the PA Grand Canyon. Is that the possibly ~200 miles you are talking about Paul? I would love to see that area, so it sounds good to me.  :)

Here's direcetions from Kmart in Allentown to Williamsport.

For anyone that wants to stay overnight... I did a quick search for hotels in Williamsport and came up with this list: (I didn't check pricing on them yet, but maybe Paul can tell us which ones are decent to stay in & not too expensive. Thanks!)

After my research, it will take approx 3 1/2 hrs [202 miles] to get to Williamsport.  Our group is thinking that if we go, it would be better to trailer the bikes there.  Will there be a place that we can leave the trailer?

Pls let me know.  Thank you.

It's about a 2 hour ride on RT80 from NW Jersey.  Maybe the Central Jersians could ride up to North Jersey, we could all get some breakfast at a fine NJ diner off of 80 and then all head out there.  80 is a pretty easy ride, especially once you get past 380 in PA. If we stop at least once along the way, it will be a fairly comfortable ride.  Just a thought

let me discuss it w/ my group.  Koganti, Prinz & Spotswood Suzuki - what's your feedback?

I figure it will be around 600 miles total.........more then I feel comfortable doing in a day......although I did 530 miles for Rich's memorial ride.
I seem to be having problems with carpel tunnel in my right wrist and don't think it would be a good idea to try to push it.  I don't think I can make
a weekend of it, so I am probably out.  We need to make some of these trips alittle closer to NJ!

OK, lots of questions and I have few answers. :)

As for camping this would be the closest place, and very easy to find in Montgomery.

http://www.riverside-campground.com/

Another place fairly close is:

http://www.fun-camping.com/

Never seen this place and its probably 30 minutes or so from the meeting spot.

As for hotels, there is a Best Western near Lewisburg and I'm sure others, all along rt 15 south of I-80.  For the small town route there is

http://www.watsoninn.com/

If everybody lets me know what they are wanting exactly to do I can give you advice.  But I've never stayed at any of these places, why stay at a hotel 10 miles from you house?

I think the best place for everyone to meet would be at the Lycoming Mall, McDonalds.  Its pretty hard to miss.  That will give everybody a chance to rest for minute before we go on the ride.  If your ok to leave the trailers in the mall parking lot you can park them there, if not let me know.  Your welcome to use my driveway, we can make arrangements.

http://www.shoplycomingmall.com/pages/aboutus/directions/index.jsp

At the moment I have a route planned out that is 191 miles, begins and ends at the mall.  It includes 2 other scenic state parks for rest stops, and the PA grand canyon east overlook.  I can make it longer or shorter depending on how everyone feels.  At the moment, it will take about 5 or so hours to complete, with rest stops about every hour or so.  Most of it is easy riding, fun swoopy roads, NO HIGHWAY.  :)  If the weather is good enough this weekend I am going to do a test run and make sure it all works.

Hopefully, this is enough info to get everyone together and start planning out the details.  Let me know if you have any questions!  :thumb:

Paul, that sounds GREAT to me! I can't wait to go and see the PA Grand Canyon and other places you have planned out for us. IMO, I think what you have planned is perfect... not too much, not too little. Any chance you can post a map of the route you have planned for us? (Just curious to see that's all... if not I can wait.) :)

Let's all plan on meeting at the Lycoming Mall, McDonalds, by 11-11:30 am. Does that work for everyone who's going??

If anyone wants to meet up with me at the Kmart on Tilghman Street to ride there, please either post up or pm me so we can make arrangements. Thanks! (If I end up staying overnight, I'll probably just get a hotel someplace nearby. I'm guessing there should be vacancies.)

this is the general gist of the route.  Changes might be made, since I haven't done a test ride yet. (Come on Satuday weather!)
