I love:

cruising through a valley or up a mountain, going fast, passing cars on the freeway, drafting trucks, taking hard corners, riding in the carpool lane, surviving a mistake, the way my wife squeezes my leg to tell me it's alright when I f%$k up a corner and the way she hides behind me to get out of the wind on the freeway, being small on the road, being big on the sidewalk, parking anywhere, finding shortcuts that are almost legal, riding where cars can't go, waving at my motorcycle buddies, cursing the people that don't wave back, talking to any motorcycle rider anywhere at any time about their bike or some cool ride, trying to ignore the moto-groupies and wannabes that ask "How fast does it go," going nowhere just for the sake of riding, turning around to ride a corner again, riding in the front of a pack, riding in the back of a pack, riding with random riders I see on the freeway, racing away from lights and making car drivers feel inferior, the look that people give me when I'm riding in the rain or cold, the look that other riders give me when we're both riding in pouring rain, catching someone checking out my bike, how the cool wind feels after being stuck in traffic, calling the GS my MotoScoot, wearing my moto gear, the smell of my leather jacket, being stupid on the road, being smart on the road, laughing about almost being killed by that drunk driver, shaking my finger at squids, practicing wheelies in a parking lot, standing up while I ride over rough terrain, when people think I'm crazy for riding, that it pisses off my mother, the sound of the engine, working through the gears, talking about the ride even if it was a short one, being so tired and sore that it's physically impossible to ride any more and still wanting to, and that little girl I met last weekend who's first sentence was "I want motorcycle fast!"

well said sir well said. my thoughts exactly, and an drafting a truck or a car is riding behind it allowing them to move the air for you, and not doing it yourself. saves fuel and the wind beating you might get on the open highway :thumb:

I always AVOID being behind a truck.  I always get tossed from side to side, and if I'm going fast enough behind a truck, I feel like I almost have no control...  The wind currents back there are brutal.  I have no idead what you guys are talking about. :dunno_white:

Get closer. Scary stupid close.

I love:

A lonely stretch of road and standing up, letting go of the bars and coasting with my arms spread and my eyes closed.

Being the only motorcycle on the road.

Being one of 1,000,000 MC's on a block.

Shivering in the cold.

Being able to say, "You just wouldn't get it." to a cager and mean it.

The way riders clump together in the mid summer months.

The way Alpha is so calm when I get all hyperventilatingly pissed at my bike. (And patient with my pure stupidity)

The way I call myself "Squidly" Whenever I do a trick.

When they wave back, and in that one motion tell you that they know your pain, your suffering, your joy and your love. All with one outstretched hand...

The number one thing:

I love how everything else stops when that engine starts.
Rich, RIP.

Hey I can't help it, you try writing poetry for open mic nights for a few years and see if it doesn't warp your brain!
Rich, RIP.

pantablo

doing that is dangerous because of what can come flying out from under the truck, like retreads from the truck itself. ALthough in HS I used to do that in my '66 VW bug...

NO!  Don't do it at all..  :nono:  Drafting is friggen dangerous as hell and completely retarded...  :nono: Death Wish type shaZam!...  :nono: Really... :nono:   Just 'cause I like doing it, doesn't mean anyone else should ever try it...  It really is a stupid thing to do...  And yes, that makes me stupid for doing it...  It really can't be done safely...   :nono:  Cars will cut right behind trucks without even looking for anyone....  Trucks can kick up all kinds of bad stuff...  And if you decide to change lanes for any reason, you could be in a world of hurt...  :icon_confused: It's stupid in cars too...  :nono: It's stupid everywhere all the time... :nono:

Stupid-ass-me example:  I was drafting a semi and decided to whip out from behind it...  So, I backed off enough to get full throttle and right before I was about to nail the thing, I popped out into the next lane...  I was flying ahead...  Then the semi decided it was time to change lanes, but he had NO WAY to see me.  And it was 100% MY FAULT.  I ended up on the shoulder...  If he had killed me, it would have been MY FAULT for being a goddamn IDIOT!

Srsly...  Teenage Suicide, Don't do it.  :nono:

I shouldn't have included some of the stuff I love about riding, but I figured nobody would actually read my post 'cause it was so long.  :icon_confused:

annguyen1981

I actually got closer to a semi today (before I read all the replies).  DAMN!  It's SOOOO COMFY IN THAT AREA!!!

But it's too close for my comforts.  That was my first time doing that, and my last.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!!!

SRSLY!!!  NO!!! :nono:

I really wish you hadn't done that...  If you'd crashed, I would have felt like it was MY fault!

Oh man...

annguyen1981

Well...  I still didn't understand what you guys were saying, so I tried an experiment BEFORE I had read the posts.  Like I said, that's gonna be the LAST time I do it.  It was real smooth riding, but uncomfortable at the same time, cause I couldn't see anything in front that could cause an accident.

Few things in life offer such a pure emotion of freedom.

I bet freefallers get that same rush.

When I get bottled up and frustrated with life, I can always turn to my shrink, rev her engine and blast off to nowhere. Sometimes just a few miles is enough, sometimes I just ride for hours.  Everytime I feel better. Everytime.

Not the brightest crayon in the box, but I can still be seen from a distance.  ;P

Totally Three-Mo...   But, those first few frustrated miles are pretty dangerous.

oh, yeah you mean hyper drive.  I try to control myself.  but.........you know :icon_confused:

Yeah...  Riding to clear your head + Long Straight Boring Road with a decreasing radius on-ramp at the end == PUCKER!

My head sure was clear after I didn't die...  Phew!

Feeling absolute control, absolute freedom, and absolute fear all at the same time.

Waving to a complete stranger and getting a wave back.

Riding a stretch of road you've driven through a thousand times before and noticing something you've never noticed before.

The awe and excitement you get form kids as you pull up next to them at a stop light.
Me fail english? That's unpossible!
