I am stumped.  I don't remember which line for the fuel is for the upper T Fitting vs. the lower.  I assume it's the lower since that's where the bowls are.  if so, what does the upper do?  Clymer doesn't explain it and the diagrams don't show it clearly or describe it...

Please help!

scratch

Upper is the float bowl atmospheric vent, it allows atmospheric pressure to allow the fuel to be drawn out of the float bowls.  Usually, this is the one tube that goes over the airbox to nothing.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

upper T connects to nothing, it allows air to vent

lower T hooks up to your fuel petcock

got it running.  thanks a ton!

is there a need for the tube to the atmos T?  or can i remove it to simplify things.

also, can i remove the tube from the bottom of the air box?  it seems to just be a water drain.

Leave them both.

It's best to route the airbox hose so that water doesn't drip all over the inside of your bike

It probally would be fine if you removed the vent T, but it may help to ballance the carbs, and make sure they are vented to the exact same pressure.

Don't remove the hose from the bottom of the airbox, and make sure that the end of the hose is plugged too. If you have no hose or plug, it allows unfiltered air to go into the engine. If the hose is in the way, you could remove it but make sure to put a plug on the airbox. Ocasionally, it's good to remove the plug and drain the oil. Oil can collect in the airbox because the crankcase breather vents to the airbox, and over time a small ammount of oil may collect there.
good luck

thanks.  took it for a ride last night and things seem to be working fine.  a short stint on the highway scared the crap outta me, but i will need to get used to it.  going to check my torque settings on everything and check the rear alignment on my next outting.

thanks for all your help!
