i take both the plug and the spring out and drill a screw in there? is this right?  my air screw seems to already be exposed (i can already take a flat head to it.  is that all that needs to be done? dont want to butcher it so im just making sure before i make a big mistake i cant take back.

If you asking what I think, the cap you are trying to remove is already gone, don't drill anything else till someone that knows more than I do figures this out.

i kinda assumed that that was already done for me for some reason.  i just reassembled my bike mostly the air filter keeps getting knocked off when i put on the gas tank and when i finally had everything squared away i turned on the gas valve and gas came pouring out my nipple valve (it seems)  the screws for them are tight. maybe its comming somewhere else.  i shouldnt have even bothered to try to rejet.

I decided to after the guy i bought the bike from gave me the k\&n lunchbox. i had to adjust the throttle cable cause it was sticky and while i was at it i decided to put the filter on and then rejet and now i have created more problems for myself...nuts! giving up for now will try again tomorrow.

alright everything is back into place i started it up....on the first try the engine instantly revved up super high then died on its own.  starting it again doesnt work.  the engine tries to turn but doesnt go to idle.

check your throttle cable, I bet it's too tight.

i think i figgured out that. in the instructions to jetting there comes up this part where you are supposed to expose the pilot air screw and i was kind of confused as what i was supposed to do there. but i think i found out that its already been done before. i think. there is no brass plug covering it as describe in the "poor mans rejetting pictorial".  now that i have my bike back together again though, im just having some issues getting it running again. i have been trying the throttle cable it helped a little it sounds like the engine is close to turning over but still doesnt.  im going to go though the trouble shooting in the manual.  i dont think its electrical since its starting. maybe compression or something else.

every piece of advice helps...yes i did and i double checked it to make sure.  thanks  i dont think that there is going to be a straight forward solution to this problem so im just going to have to break everything down and find out what is the matter.  in the mean time i really appreciate your suggestions guys and gals.

i found out that the vacuum hose was disconnected but it still sint starting up.  i would hit the starter amybe 5 times before it started and then it would run for about 2 seconds before it would die (with the choke on).  i started it with the choke on and before it died i quick switched the choke off and it ran for about 5 seconds. does this sound at all like a lack of gas problem?  i was thinking of replacing the hoses because one of them has a kink in it. i just noticed it.

also it appears that i have one of those smog canisters as if my bike were from cali. can i remove this and all the hoses comming from it? it looks like it has a crack.

so its not the kink in the fuel line because i just replaced em.  on my tank on the bottom theres this L shaped nipple or bar.  i have a tube connected to it just wondering what exactly is supposed to go on the end of it.

as of now it seems my bike still has that same problem of working for only a few seconds and then not starting at all.
could putting a new jet and the K&N lunchbox really have such a negative effect on a bike?  it was running previously but the throttle cable was loose. so i went in fixed the throttle cable and in the mean time i replaced the jet, cleaned the carbs and put that air filter on.  thats all!  could any of that make my bike not work all of a sudden?

ok update:  checked the spark plugs (look, according to the manual, severly carbon fouled and will probably replace) and while i was at it the compression.  looks fine. when i hit the start up air blows throught the holes andwhen i put the spark plug to ground it sparks.  funny thing....when i had unknowingly one spark plug in and the other one out i started the engine and it ran for a while maybe 5-8 seconds but i killed it because i thought that wasnt a good idea.

so i replaced my spark plugs and it definately starts up like a champ now!  when i have the choke on it runs at a constant rpm with some variance.  Unfortuantely i dont have a tach but i can definately hear it.  wehn i take the choke off the thing sounds sickly.  kinda sputters but keeps running then it revvs really high and thats when i cut of the engine.  i thought thats what i was fixing when i went in for the throttle cable but i guess that isnt the problem.

i dont even hit the throttle and it revvs up while im idling.  also i notice that there is a peculiar odor that is being put out while my engine is running. it may be cleaner that is burning off but it doesnt smell like burning oil or normal exhaust.  also, i dont know if it was the fumes but i checked my oil and my dip stick smelled a little like gas.

anyway thoughts? ideas? thanks.
