I am a noobie to the bike riding community and i have just picked up my first bike; an 1989 GS500E. I'm kinda ashamed to admit this, but while riding the bike for the second time, I laid her down while riding her around the neighborhood. The damage appears to be relatively minor but i snapped the left handlebar off when she hit. I have been racking my tiny brain on where to find a replacement for it. Apparently, and correct me if I'm wrong, the '89 model had "clip on" style handlebar which is making it very difficult for me to find a replacement. Does anyone know where i can find a replacement for her? Any help with this would be a god-send because I'm anxious to get back on the road as soon as possible. Thanks.

It's just the actual bar itself right?  Just the tube the controls are on?

I'm not sure where you can get an exact replacement, but parts places should have 'em...

One other option:  Buy some cheap drag bars and take a hack saw to 'em. :dunno_white:

Alphamazing

Just get some 7/8" tubing cut to the desired length. Should be pretty easy.

You broke the bar ??? very very unlikely ... you either broke the post or the plate.
Post or plate are hard ... but you'd have to find them and swap them. Bar itself - easy, just 7/8 tubing and 1 milled crescent slot in the part where the bolt goes.
Cool.

Awesome, thanks for the help guys. Dr. Love, you have a spare tube? If you'll ship it to me I can paypal a few bucks to you for it. Just send me a PM.

Non 89 canadian tubes have 2 grooves in them. You can use it on an 89 but not be able to use the 89's on a canadian non 89 even if it had clipon's. Risers on canadian bikes (90-94 I think) are different from the 89. Your switch locator nub hole may be a bit off with the canadian tube though, drill one or chew off the nub.
