First off, thanks for the great site.  I've been lurking a little while, and this is my second post.  I've gained some great information from here, so thanks again!

Well, after a year of being bikeless, I brought home a fixer-upper 1990 GS500.  It's evident the bike had been sitting outside for quite some time, and was not pretty.  However, after some coaxing it fired and ran... only with the choke fully on.  For the price I paid, I was fully aware that whatever bike I ended up with, I will have to put some work into it.  That's ok though, I enjoy that kind of stuff.

It sat for two weeks while I was away on business, then on Wednesday I had the time to tear into it.  The carbs needed the most atention, so I started there.  Stopping by 3 local Suzuki dealers, I managed to pick up all the necessary O-rings.  I pulled the carbs off the bike and spent the next two evenings cleaning, adjusting and resealing.

I live in an apartment and have no workspace...... other than my large coffee table which functions as my dining table.  I am also a few months away from my wedding, and my fiance lives with me.  When she saw my fire breathing motorcycle carbs spread out over the table, she did that pause and glare thing.  Married men you know what I'm talking about.  Anyway, I managed smooth things out and told her to look forward to us being able to ride together again.  It will be good for our relationship.  I also managed to spill a little carb cleaner, which took off the varnish on my nice table.  My solution was to sand, stain, and new polyurethane, her solution was to throw it away and shop for a new one.  In the end we both win,  I got my carbs re-built, and she gets to shop.

...And when she gets home this afternoon and sees my newly refinished table, she'll be so happy that we saved money instead of buying a new one.   ;)      :thumb:

Hey Junico,

Nice story, and situation well handled. I am in the same boat, got 90 GS in pretty rough shape and still trying to sort everything out. Mine runs though, and I already put about 3000 km on it in the last month.

Good luck with the repairs and enjoy the bike.

Cheers,

Doug.

Will your fiancée be riding her own bike or as your pillion?  O0

Your life is like a song,

And my song is just one huge badass guitar solo.
Rich, RIP.

Thanks all!  I am going to install the carbs back on the nike tomorrow and cross my fingers.  Hopefully it will run!
