Lost my gym bag off the back of the GS in traffic today, that was exciting.  Bag seems fine for the most part, I use bungie cords and the little hold-down pegs under the seat to hold the thing on the bike.  I'm not real exciting about repeating this so I was wondering if there were any good suggestions out there for better hold down straps?  I'd rather avoid getting a rack on the back if I can so I'm trying to utilize the short ass pegs, at least for a while.

In other news, acceleration from a dead stop to 60 mph to utilize a gap in traffic after picking up my bag was pretty impressive.

go get some of that grippy stuff they sell for droors and stuff.  I have some in my tool box and when I went to alaska I put some under my bag I strapped to my seat it it stayed put through 12+ hour days.

It looks like this, but mine has holes in it:

It will help out tons and maybe you can try the bungie net also to hold your bag down.  The grip stuff though will help tons because it wont allow the bag to slide.

cargo net, or run the bungee through the straps on the gym bag.

That's just it, I had been running them through the straps, I think one of the hooks on the bungie cords popped off somehow, and I'm blaming the pegs for being to short for this one.  Probably vibration and hitting a bump or something caused it, I'm not sure.  What I'd like are longer pegs, I think, I don't think I want bungies that stretch tighter than the ones I have now, but I may look in that direction too.

Tighten the hooks of the bungee cord till they "just" fit around the pegs.

CirclesCenter

Try carrying pliers, squeeze the metal hooks closed to secure it.

i never used the pegs only, I always went around the grab bar, inside the bar with the hook facing out.  I can see how they would pop off the pegs, and why longer ones would help.  Maybe some good ole parachute cord and some good knots :dunno_white:

Tank bag or back pack. I always disliked strapping stuff to the back, especially over bodywork.
Common sense in not very common.

I've never had problems with bungee cords. I just wrap them around the pegs until the length is just right. Dgyvers remark about body work is spot on, though.

I rode about 5000 miles through Germany with a soft bag system attached to those four short pegs. I used Nylon belts with buckles in that case, though, and the base plate stayed put all fifteen days.
