What kind of impairments do you ride with?

I mean medical stuff.

I am legally blind in my left eye.  I can see shapes and make out colors, but because of it being my "lazy eye" I don't have great depth perception.

But because I've been like this since very little, my right eye has compensated, and I actually have better vision in that eye than most people with 20/20 type vision.

How about you guys?

I am mildly nearsighted in my left eye. (Can't see far away)

Not bad enough for the DMV to care though.

Does being under the influence of a little devil on your shoulder count?

How about the influence of a copious amount of alcohol?

If you think you don't need a helmet, you probably don't

I had my right wrist rebuilt & still have a plate in it from a previous bike accident. I've got 20% loss of movement in it.
The more I learn about women, the more I love my bike.

This doesn't happen on my RR, but it definitely does on the GS. Every time I ride that thing, the seat crunches my junk to the point where reality starts to distort.

i actually have Meniere's Disease. In short, i have very reduced vestibular balance. Like An mentioned with his eyes...it's amazing how the human body is able to compensate for "impairments." My eyes and my limbs have made up for a lot of where my inner ear falls short. And thankfully, it hasn't ever kept me from riding...or even made me feel that unsafe.

Does heroine count as a "medical impairment"?

I'm getting too old, too fat, and have much arthritis now.    Hips bother me most, I walk with much pain and difficulty if I forget my Tylenol.  Reason I lowered my GS a bit, legs are long enough but getting hard to swing my hip up and over.    But if I can walk to my garage, get the bike out and get on it, and then manage to get my feet up to the pegs when I get going; watch out, I haven't slowed down a bit after that except at night.

Have cataracs in both eyes now, was well corected with new glasses last winter but things are getting a bit fuzzy again.  Only a matter of time till they operate on the cataracs, but they weren't ready for it last winter.  Reason I've slowed down a bit now after dark.

The left collar bone I broke in the 03 incident didn't heal properly and is still broken, so along with the partially torn rotator cuff in the same shoulder from the same incident it is a bit disabling and a bit more painful than all my other arthritic joints.

Like bubba zanetti related above, I broke my left wrist rather badly a few years ago and have a steel plate in it now and the movement is slightly impaired.  Non bike related incident, but it still hurts more than the other joints do, except for the left shoulder, lol.

You all have a lot of fun things to look forward to as the decades go by, but I still consider myself very fortunate compared to the many really seriously handicaped persons out there.

Edit to add:  I forget my newest problem, it doesn't bother me on a daily basis though.  Was diagnosed with osteoporosis earlier this year and have siginificant bone density loss.  Had surgery in June to remove a defective parathyroid gland from my neck to slow the bone density loss but still have to be careful not to fall or crash again with my brittle bones.  I'm really trying to slow down a bit.

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

My right knee is jacked up pretty bad.  I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus all at once.  The doctors fixed the rest but the meniscus had to come out, half of it anyway.
My eyesight sucks to.  I wear contact lenses.

I wear contact lenses.

This is my "contact lenses" story: In my first year of riding, I got on the on-ramp of a highway around 3am. My visor was flipped up because it was a warm night. I turned my head to do a shoulder check to merge, doesn't my left contact lens fly out of my eye. :thumb: So here I am, bombing down the highway and I can't see. I was with a group of riders so I followed them very blindly off at the next exit and down a bunch of curvy side streets. When we finally came to a stop, I had to break off from them to go home and get my glasses.

(that's as impaired as I've ever been, despite 1 head-on collision with a car last year with *only* soft tissue damage to my right wrist)
