Everyday to NYC this week.
Mother is in a hospital in Brooklyn, will be released today.
So it was riding between work in Manhattan , hospital in Brooklyn and my home in Northern NJ.
Good portion of the riding was in the dark.
The GS500 is a pisser.  Talking about the right tool for the right job.
The front is soft and I never changed the springs so you
just have to watch and pull-up on the handlebars as you approach the potholes.
Slowing down is not much of an option around here.
Bike rocks when it comes to splitting lanes which around here is a trip.
Smoked a Busa in heavy traffic in the Village.  Size does matter and the smaller and lighter the better.
After I got ahead of the Busa further on Varick St. I was stuck between two lanes and just did not have enough room go forward.
I hear "Excuse me behind me".  A middle aged woman was on her bicycle and trying to get around me.
I moved ever so slightly to the side and she passes me.
For a split moment I envied the Chinese food delivery guys on their scooters.
With those scooters you can get through the tightest places.
But I just shrugged off that thought.  With the scooter I would not have been able
to smoke that Busa.  Probably would have stayed only even with him.

Hope I love YOU will recover.  I can't see myself riding in Manhattan - those cab drivers are insane.

On a different note, you might be interested in the following - check it out:

Cab drivers are no problem.
You know what to expect.
Your senses are on at 100% in the city.
It's those people with the cellphones in NJ that worry me.
Can never relax with those people around.

I would sell my bike if I couldn't lane split.

I would probably just still lane share.....

NYC got it all.  I take my KLR250 once in a while when I feel like going off-road.
Still plenty of good riding on funky cobble stoned streets in Manhattan.
But the best is 2nd ave in Brooklyn.  Just get off on 39th St. off the Gowanus and you are in heaven.
Cobblestone, gigantic potholes and old railroad tracks.
The city make your senses come alive if you are lucky to survive.

For fun city riding, I bet some of the super motard bikes would be a LOT of fun. Dirtbike suspension to soak up the potholes/cobblestones/cracked streets combined with really sticky tires would be perfect. I've never ridden one but I hear good things, would be fun to try.

Riding my GS in downtown seattle is a lot of fun but it bottoms out like crazy on some of the worse streets. Time for a fork rebuild and some better springs.

Riding around LA is fun. A little too fun. Just the other day a charming woman next to me at a red light rolled down her window to say, "you tryin ta DIE?!" I kid you not, she was driving a Ford Expedition, hamburger in hand, cell phone on shoulder. Guess I zipped by her a lil too fast and a little too close and took her attention away from more important things.
