I just put a bid on an aprilia falco sl1000 exhaust.  Not the headers, just the top.  Does anyone have any input on that?  my friend says it would be hard to fit and that it would probably be heavier than stock, but i think it looks cool and at 49 bucks (so far) i think it'd be a good deal.  I don't know what performance implications or sound difference it would have, so ya'll can guess with me until it's installed and we'll se who is closest when it gets here.e

you could do it but it probably will be a little hard.  Without the dimensions, that i am too laxy to look up, it is hard to tell. 

Take it to any muffler shop, they can weld that sucker right on.  You might need a collector to change the size of the pipe but that's no big deal.  The main problem I see is the angle of the inlet pipe on that can.  Unless you straighten it out, it's gonna look funny (or perhaps cool)

I think it's gonna look awesome  Especially for 50 bucks, however, I don't know how it's gonna make the bike run.  I'm thinking it should let the exhaust flow freer since it's a high performance bike.  Any guesses?

If you can figure out how to make the mounting bracket bolt to the hanger on the bike, you can cut off the pipe and have a muffler shop weld a reducer between your header and that muffler. It's the same for any muffler, find one you like, cut off the old and weld on the new. I did the same for a pipe off of a yamaha yz 426 dirtbike. I cut the bracket off and riveted it back on where it needed to be, then polished it up nice and shiney and had a muffler shop weld it up. I gave the guy who welded it up $20 and we were both happy

yeah, thanks for the input !  One thing i didn't know about was the reducer.  what is that for?  $20 for the install sounds good! 

The reducer is to allow two different sizes of exhaust pipe to join. When I had my muffler welded up, the difference was about 3/16" or 1/4" between the two pipes, but it was at a wierd angle so the guy just filled it with weld. It just depends on the size difference and the angle between the two, you may or may not need one. The shop that I went to dose some bike stuff, so they knew what was up. Different shops may not.

If you go somewhere good, they should be able to figure out the bracket and where the pipes should be cut, replaced, and or welded, and do it all for you. Of course if you go somewhere good, they could build you a whole new system, but it would cost a bit more than $20.

If you have a good idea of what you're doing, do as much as possible yourself and then it'll be cheap for them to weld it up. If you don't know how to do it and they do more than just a weld, be prepared to pay more.

One more tip, before you go to the shop, remove your exhaust system, coat the bolts with anti sieze and put it back on. This will save time (time=money) fighting it at the shop, and allow them to do most of the welding off the bike. You only want to put a couple tack welds on the systen while it's on the bike, then remove it for the rest.

Sweet, I actually can't wait!  I'll be posting some pics up real soon of the whole process.  Should I be concerned with flow restricion, backpressure, etc, etc?

you'll probably need to rejet... just follow the rejetting matrix for what others have done with a slip-on

well even though its a higher performance bike I dont think you would need to rejet.  If you threw on a gixxer1000 pipe you dont need rejetting right?  I would think the same for this pipe.

After the installation, it turned out to be that the 2003 Aprilia Falco 1000 right hand side exhaust almost slips onto the GS.  However,  the can holder was too centered on the aprilia can So we had to chop it off and move it.  I don't know if you can tell in the pics.  The muffler shop fabricated a small link pipe for me because I decided to smooth the bend to maintain the best flow possible.   Oh yean, the veredict:     Thumbs up!  The bike idles really really quiet!  But this may be because of the angle at which we left the can, the flow almost flows horizontal.   On the other side, with the engine revved up it sounds kick ass!!!    It almost lost the 2 cylinder bang and is now a much smoother sound, more like a four cylinder when u can't really tell the time b/w firings.  There was definitely an increaase in the decibels, that I wish I could have measured.  Aesthetically I like it much better now, but let me know what you think!

It was about 85 US dollars for everything.  I think I got a pretty good deal, since the pipe is supposed to retail at around 500 bucks!

Good on ya!  That's different and cheap.  Also thanks for the video/sound clips, was wondering what these things were supposed to sound like.  My crappy supertrapp sounds like a high performance lawnmower, yours actually sounds cool.  I'm now inspired to do something radical with my exhaust!

I  feel the same way, but since we had to remove the mount and reinstall it, we were left with little rrom to work it to mess with the angle, but I am happy w the result anyway.

The supertrapp I got is actually made for motorcross.  Unfortunately, it sounds the part.  I've heard really cool sounding (supertrapp) exhaust over the years and have usually been impressed.  Not so much with mine.  Really disappointing.  I bought it like this so I can;t totally complain but this was the one item on this bike I didn;t like when I bought it.  I'm currently pursuing some buell underbody exhaust because that;s where it;s mounted.  I'll let ya know how it goes, the wife said fix the exhaust.  Apparently it wakes the kid and neighbors.
