Man i dont get it. Yesterday i got my jets in order with my Lunchbox back in and with 40nbs and 142.5 mains and stock pipes. Bike starts up fine and runs fine while idling. But when i hit the rode and the bike gets up above 5k it seems like the throttle cable is sticking. I adjusted the cable when i had the tank off and it snapped back fine. When it gets all warmed up it seems like the revs just wanna race. Even when i bog it down in first that wont get the revs down. I had to cut the bike off and get it below 5k then when i turn it back on it will idle fine. but as soon as i give it a little throttle it climbs. Can you guys advise me on how this to adjust the cable properly on a 1996 GS500. lol. Cause clearly im not doing it right.

Sounds like you are lean... Hanging rpms like that usually indicates a lean condition... does the throttle physically stick on you (if it snaps back it's not sticking...)?

the throttle does snap back but sometimes when i turn the bars it does it to. I dotn think its lean. Im running 142s, 40nonbleed, lunchbox, 2 washers and 2.5 out. If anything i think i would be rich. Also im getting this popping noise from the filter.

You didn't change the routing of the cable itself?  That's usually the cause when you get throttle changes when you turn the bars.

RVertigo

Is it possible you pinched a fuel line?

I did that the last time I took my tank off... :icon_confused:

nope its routed through the the triangle and then over the little bar connected to the frame then to the carbs.

And i guess the lack of fuel would make it think it was lean.

i cant help much but id like to say that i am in the EXACT same boat as you.  hope we go somewhere where our bikes work again.

i rejetted, replaced fuel lines because one had a kink in it, and oiled up my throttle cable.  good luck man and if you find a solution hit me back. ill do the same

If turning the bars lock to lock doesn't cause it to happen then your throttle cable is not the problem.  Try setting the mixture screws 3 turns out and see if that helps it.

Hangings rpms like that still says a lean condition..  You ruled out the bars/cable? Sometimes when you turn to lock on either side the engine rpm go up? Or it doesn't change at all now from the bars...?

Double check all your vacuum lines/intake boots...orings in the caps-anywhere you might have a vacuum leak ( as already suggested ).
