did you take the engine out and fiber glass it in the tail section?!  just messin.  Looks good but alittle slant down to the rear might help the "big" of it all go away.

Moon raker,

I've been interested in experimenting with fiberglass making.  I was just wondering what type of materials you used for it?  I bought some resin and fiberglass from an autozone.  The fiberglass was pretty think and didn't seem very shapeable.  Does it seem Like I have the wrong product?

I jsut finished my CPA so am going to have some time to pay attention to my lonely GS (Been under the cover for three weeks ).  Thanks in advance.

While I await pictures of the finished product, I have to say I like the looks.

To everyone that is poo-ing my rear cowl....HOW DARE YOU!!!

Naw, just kidding. :icon_lol:

Like I said before, I like the moto gp rear ends....the older ones that are kinda bigger...like on the ol' 500cc's?

It does look bigger than it really is, its not a straight on angle...sorta from above, like I was standing over it....

As for the rake not matching up with the lines of the tank, when its off its center stand it matches up a bit better....
...making it look less aggressvie.

Im gonna get a gsxr/kat rim so's I can get a fatter tire back there to match up with the bigger cowl.
Im also going to CUT OFF the passenger foot pegs, and fab something up to hang my pipe from.
I'm prolly gonna bend my exhaust pipe up some, bringing it closer to the rear side panel/cowl.

Another thing Im going to do is "beef" up my swing arm some, making it look a little tuffer instead
of what it is now....which to me looks too simple and even though it does its job just fine, it
looks sorta weak....OH RELAX people, Im not dissing anyones stock swing arms, its just I gotta
do something to go with my (big) racey rear cowl...something to go with it you know?
..and Im too cheap to buy and fit something off another bike....

You know, another thing is, Im going to use the original seat foam and canvas/leather.
And when thats sitting on it, the tail doesnt look near as big...it raises up the seat area
about one and a half inches.

Im going for something that looks sorta like wayne rainey's old gp bike...91-ish...

aaanyway.
Whatever6060 >> Yup, sounds like you bought the wrong stuff. Ive never really worked with fiberglass until this....
...so if I can do it, anyone can. You just have to fab something up first....or atleast thats how I did it...Im not sure of
the "correct" way. I did read up some on molding/shaping fiber glass by way of stretching fleece over something and
then painting/soaking it with resin and letting it dry...to where it holds its shape. You can read about fabbing stuff
like that on car stereo web sites...in the forums...you know, its used when making sub-boxes and door panels etc.

But anyway, the way I did it was I took some card board, like thick poster board, and began cutting out a side form.
I just eye balled it, cut some, held it up to where I wanted it tie into my original side panel....and when I got an idea
of something I liked, I cut out an exact replica for the other side....then taped them to each side panal leaving the middle
empty. Then I tape them together down the middle, bending them together, and when I got the gap and look I wanted,
I cut another peice that would run down the middle. Then I cut the peice where the back of the seat is suppost to be...
Bending it it to conform....and then I went over all my seams with scotch tape to hold all the joints long enough for me
to flip this whole contraption upside down and place fiberglass/angel hair inside it and then paint on my resin...
Once it was dry, I did it again for strenth. Then on the other side, the outside, I took off all my tape and laid fiber
glass all over the outs side, tying in the new fiberglass into the oringinal side panels. Hit it with resin, let it dry and
did another layer. Then I layed something over the back, hit it with resin, let it dry, trimmed it. Did it again for
strenth.

Now Im doing the body filler thing.....I havent had much time to work on it though....

All I used was fiberglass/angel hair, resin, hardener. And of corse the card board and scotch tape.

Get yourself some extra side panels off ebay, maybe an extra seat and try it out!
Its no biggie.

Im still not sure of what kinda tail light Im going to put on her though...hum...

Ok, enough...this has turned into a novel.

While you are at it, hinge the hump, add a lock and line the inside. Now your hump becomes a trunk!

I applaud your efforts!  :thumb:

You should see some of dgyver's efforts. He's got all sorts of ideas hanging in his shop.

the starting height, isnt bad, perhaps if you did a progressive slope to the tail light kinda like the GSXR solo or Busa solo seats. still keep it up.  :thumb:
