Hi !!

Can anyone suggest some ideas on how to effectively remove old gaskets ? They are almost rock-hard and are too difficult to scrape off with a "swiss-army" knife !

Thanks I appreciate it

Soaking them in de-greaser helps a bit. I have to admit old GS gaskets are the toughest I've ever seen, and I'm struggling a bit with a set of my own right now. Fortunately, I have other sets of covers!

Go to the auto parts store and buy some gasket remover spray.  It is some form of really strong acid and will get most of the gunk off, then use a razor blade and a die grinder with a wire wheel to get the rest of it off.  Just watch the paint with that gasket remover spray it might take some off.

I used the razorblade method and cleaned up my goofs with a little fine sand paper. Seals OK so far but was a lot of work. An "real" gasket scraper would probably make the job eaiser.

Yep, just did the right hand crankcase gasket with the razorblade and some Liquid Wrench. Still took 8 hours (I'm a perfectionist).
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
