rebuild? screw that.  Get a 2-piston SV1k caliper and master.

Odds are, though, that it's not a broken caliper.  I would start by going outside with an 8mm wrench and breaking the bleed valve loose.  Some fluid will ooze out, most assuredly, and if it happens close the valve before it stops.  Then try to roll the bike.  If it's loose give the lever a few good sqeazes and see if it releases.  If it does not release after breaking the bleeder open or after you've sqeazed the lever, then something else is likely wrong.

If I were you, though, I'd opt for the warranty work and go to the dealer.

If this problem is persistant then I would suspect the calipre is broken...it's not bleeding pressure off propperly.  If it's the 2006 in your sig I really would just take it to the dealer and get them to replace the caliper...put your stock brake line back on first, though, because I don't know if you guys have a "magnuson-moss act" in aussieland.

If you don't want to go that route I'd look for an SV caliper...iirc they're compatible.

Recently replaced the caliper in my '91.

BIG IMPROVEMENT!

Used a '97 TOKICO caliper. Excellent feeling and hard braking with a single finger.

Rebuilt master Cylinder too. Steek braided hose already installed some time ago.
