My name is Anthony.
I recently bought a 1993 GS500e. it had 1600 miles on it and bought it for $1600. Prior to the GS i was riding Vespa's and bought the GS to handle my highway riding and commuting needs. Overall i must say that im really enjoying the GS. The thing handles incredibly.

Anyhow, i was wondering if you guys could help me out.
Today i was changing my oil. I was reinstalling the oil filter cover and turned the bottom nut one too many times and i broke off the thread.
I was wondering...
It looks like i could just remove the bolt and replace it. what is the best way to remove the broken thread and also, could i just find the part at a hardware/ automotive store? If not, where could i find the part?

Order the part from your local Suzuki dealership or motorcycle accessory shop (ie: Cycle Gear).
Use a stud puller to get the remaining...stud left, out.  Stud puller you should be able to get at any automotive shop.  Be sure to get the right size, though.

Back the remaining bit out with the "Two Nut" trick or some vice-em-grips...

Find the Suzuki part number of the stud on a parts fiche:  http://www.gstwin.com/parts_fiche_by_year.htm

Call around to see who has it in stock...

Pick up a couple of 'em...  'cause you never know. 

I think I still have one sitting around in the pit of death I call my home office.

I think below our post count, it should display a "Stud Bolt Snapped" count.

Here is my thread from when I snapped mine. I checked around at hardware stores and couldn't find the bolt. It's metric, and most of the stores didn't have a great variety of stud bolts to begin with. A dealership is the best way to go.

Some forums have "Groups."

We could have a "Stud Snapper" group.   


But, I'd bet I'm one of the very few that snapped the headlight adjustment bolt.

As for getting the stud: What I usually do in such a situation: I get a suitably long bolt and saw it off. Then install it in the "fixed thread" with weak Loctite.
