Are 2004+ wheels interchangable with 2001-2003 wheels?  For that matter, have there been any wheel changes in the GS500 at all?

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

If you haven't seen my post in your other thread, I've got a rear black rim from a 2004.  $50 shipped and it's yours.

Thirdman, if you find me a Katana front rim ('98+) in good condition and we found out that it fits my bike, you can take my wheels for cheap. The front one has polished lips though, and I'd do the back one for free.

Here in Mexico City is easier to find the 120/70 for the bigger bikes than the 110/70, so if 98+ Kat front rim suits the GS I'd do the swap too...  Is there any issue with the front caliper and rotor or would I need a kat rotor?

shoud have gone for the bandit 6 rim exactly the same pattern as the gs :D
not to worry, bear in mind alpha that the gsx rims are 3.5 inch wide and the gs one is only 3inch... sounds like a good excuse to do the front end to me :D

The Bandit wheel, like the older GSX-R wheel, required modification to the caliper hanger, which I was not willing to do. The Katana wheel was far simpler.

lmao...this is why I went ahead and just bought a bike with both discs already there :p

These would be freakin pimp on a gs...and any gsxr wheel from 97 to 2004 wheel will fit it.

yeah sweet....
all ya need is an axle, wheel, tire, spacers, rotors, calipers, master cylinder, fender, top tripple clamp, clip-ons, and swap out or modify  the steering stem
CHEAP!!!!! everybody should do it :icon_rolleyes:

makenzie71

busa forks = bling.  Plus you use the stem that's on the lower clamp...same with any gsxr swap.  There's no "swapping or modifying" unless you just want to do it the hard way.

If you want to do it cheap, you do it with a mid 90's GSXR 600 front end.  You can get them for less than $300 shipped with the forks, wheel, tripples, stem, rotors, etc.

werase643

mak,
the 96 up gsxr...busa....tl
use a 30mm/ 30 mm steering stem
the gs and 85-95 gsxr use a 25mm / 30mm bearing set up
yeah i know just chuck it up in a handy lathe and trim everythng that don't look like a GS.....

Darrel did mine for me :icon_mrgreen: on my 99 GSXR750 USD and his TLR USD

makenzie71

nah...putting it in the lathe isn't the answer.  Just get the right bearings.  $30 and bolts up like stock.
