OK, 89 GS500  when I press the start button nothing happens, no click, nadda.
I jumped the cable that goes from the starter to the relay thing that is attached to the battery box and the starter turns over.  While putting things back together I noticed the post that the starter cable goes on is loose, it slides back and forth.

Anyone here have an extra relay they'd sell me?

Is the kill switch (red switch on the right side of the handlebars) in the "run" position?  I accidentally bumped mine one day and it took me about five minutes to realize what was going on.  Flipped the switch and it stareted right up.  Then I had about five minutes of head slapping after that :icon_rolleyes:

Kill switch?  I thought it was the "automatic starter repair system" that the dealer said came with my bike.

I "destroyed" the starter when testing spark strength a couple of weeks back...

How are you doing out there, Sir Smapty?

I don't understand what you mean. The post could rotate, but to "slide" seems very odd. Unless you mean it slides completely out of the relay. In that case, you do need another starter relay.

Have you checked online prices? Could not be that much for a new one. Unless you are a starving college student or artist -- or both.  :icon_mrgreen:
