100 miles in a piss...

Well this last weekend I rode over to Amarillo Friday afternoon and crammed my TL in one of my buddies' "economy" apartment...this thing is like 450sq ft. I then caught a ride over to Edmond Oklahoma to hit up Kalee's cousin's halloween/costume party. Me and kalee were the best looking couple there...coolest pirates, too. Coming back to Amarillo this afternoon was nice...about 10 miles from town it starts raining. So I have Kalee call up her folks at home and check the weather...allegedly clear with a good chance of rain later that night. Cool. I get dropped off at clint's (the stashee) and start checking things out. As soon as I'm ready to bugger off it starts dropping like mad..so I go to wally-world and get a couple things I was short of. By the time I get out it's nice and calm so we head back, I suit up and ride off.

About 10 miles North of town the skies open up. Pissing rain and lightning all around. The lightning was beautiful but dealing with all the asshats who have no clue how to drive in inclement weather was disturbing. On top of dealing with the people who want to drive 45mph in a drizzle, their rooster tails were smacking my front cylinder square in the plug...about 10 minutes of that abuse and she started misfiring, a problem I haven't been able to cure. Going from 45~50hp to 112hp and back with instantaneous transitions, in the rain, behind asshats...it's a tense situation. After I got around a couple wolf packs, though, it was smooth sailing for about 30 miles...the TL didn't give me any more problems til I got to Fritch. The Cable Guy's hometown was 6" under water from one end of it to the other. The result was the bike sucking in a bit of water (pods...TLS airbox doesn't fit under the TLR tank), the thorough drenching of my electrical system (lots of 1 cylinder/2 cylinder transitions at random), and I became completely drenched. I still had 65 miles of 40*f rain to ride through.

Going through Fritch plagued me from that point on...considering how cold it was, and the engine's inabillity to exceed 140*f, she didn't dry out. She ran decently the last 20 miles, though, until I got home...by that point she was tired. At one point, though, the lightning on all sides was absolutely spectacular. the strikes were very frequent and it made sitting through all that nonsense very worth it.

The 2 year old BT014's did awesome...even running through Fritch I didn't feel any laxing in traction. I wasn't too fond of them before but now I love them. They kept me upright very effectively. My boots filled with water in Fritch, though, and my pants, which would have been fine in the rain, also filled with water. My jacket's pretty stoutly water resistant, as are my glaves, but by the time I got home they were starting to soak through...which meant it was almost quitin' time.

All in all it was a very tense ride...the wedgie material of my boxers was the only dry thing wrapped around me. It was fun. I'll have to do it again sometime.

Wow, sounds thrilling. At least it was enjoyable-ish...

I heard of some SV's having that wet-weather-misfiring problem. Evidently you put some di-electric grease on the front plug threads and it works....Never tried it, but sounds like it's worth a shot  :dunno_white:
2006 SV650 K6....Finally back up and running!!! Now let the mods flow!

Mak, that sounds crazy my man.

Of course you're the guy who holds up turbines and lets them get to 65mph or so at the tips....

WHILE HOLDING IT WITH YOUR BARE HANDS!

(That's my way of saying, "If my GS was misfiring cause of the rain I'd pull over and walk it there cause I'm a cooter.")
Rich, RIP.

Skoeble...it's a plague among naked twins I've heard.  I haven't tried the dielectric grease thing...I was just told about it earlier today.  It's first on my list of things to try next.

Circles, man, if you can push a TL through 78 miles of hill country in the pouring rain, I have mondo respect for you.  I also would have stopped in Fritch if I hadn't gotten drenched.  After having my jacket, pants, gloves and helmet filled with pooled water shortly after getting into town I knew that if I stopped....anywhere...I wasn't going to get home that night.  It's one thing to endure cold...it's quite another to get out of it and back into it after warming up.

The Cable Guy... doesn't live in Fritch Texas... nor has h ever lived there.  He lived in Florida and Nebraska and is the son of a Minister? I think if I remember right?

However, Ron White, for sure lives/lived in Fritch Texas.
