I didn't know elephants were scared of white people.

I think a "cracker" is, in this case, some kind of noisemaker to scare the aforementioned ephelants, not the saltine or southern variety.

Just exterminate them already.  I'm all for protecting animals and their habitat but if they start trampling my village it's time to harvest some tusks.

Regarding the crackers, maybe the elephants don't like the sound of crunchy things under their feet?  Or, maybe it's the salt.    Are they trying to watch their weight?
