What is this part called exactly... came from the top of the carb under the cap.

I removed the caps from my bike today just to look inside, the one on the left is all warped..  it almost looks like its been melted and there is a tear in the side.  The one on the right side of my bike looks like what he's holding there.

Is that warping and tear a good reason to replace the part or is that not a big deal?

Thanks

EDub

The top part is a rubber diaphragm, and the bottom is a slide. If you're looking to order replacement parts try here http://www.hillsboromotorcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp

BIG FRIGGIN PROBLEM if you have a torn diaphram....
just ask your GF/wife....

the slide moves up due to vac....if there is a tiny pin hole....it won't work....a big friggin hole is much more badder

Hmm, I didn't know the slide was two different pieces, Does the plastic slide just pop out of the rubber diaphram?

Check out that link.  Shows you how it comes apart.

--- What kind of problems would you see from a torn diaphram?

Yes, they are separate so if your diaphragm is torn you can just replace it.  The problem is if your diaphragm is torn you won't get a good seal, and the slide won't rise up because the air will just escape through the crack. Ofcourse it depends on how big you tear is, but I'd go on the safe side and replace it. :thumb:

And apart from that this is a hell of an air leak, making it erratically lean.

Folks reporting torn diphragms usually report a bucket of weird behavior problems before.
