I've had a chance recently to talk to a few people who want to start riding. They're ALL, every one of them, looking at cruisers and only cruisers. When I ask them why, I get variations on the theme that "crotch rockets" scare them. Well, they're right to be scared, but they're also completely unaware that there's anything less than an all-out sports bike available, OTHER than cruisers... and now that even the smallest-engined, most upright street bikes are fully faired, they can't tell the difference between them by looking.

The thing is, once they start riding cruisers, they tend to never try riding anything else. If all the entry-level riders are diverted away from street bikes, where's the future market going to come from?

It's not that they're trying to kill the market, but they sell what sells.  Cruisers and standards will always be the primary sellers because they're the "American" image of a motorcycle.  I'm nearly willing to bet that more than half of the hard core sport riders out there think of a classic cruiser image when someone says "motorcycle"...and when you take into consideration that manufacturers like Suzuki underestimate demand for the sportbikes every year along side producing more units every year, while their cruiser and standard lines sit on showroom floors sometimes for years, they must be doing something right.

Sportbikes will continue to drift in and out of popularity...it's what they do.

Offer a naked and a faired version.  The carbs are fine.  Wider wheel and possibly separate seats.  Everything else I like about the gs.  Basically an sv with the gs engine, ya know?

if they put half this stuff on a gs, the price would go up, prolly to the point whre youre more likely to buy a gixxer

Naked bikes are just nicer. And I dont think it would cost too much to put a Katana front end, better suspnsion, a four valve head, and a nice set of clip ons. A bti more, but well worth it, and what would it be up to? $5700?

Becaue your riding has improved...not because your suddenly aerodynamic ride knocked you up a few notches.  Fairings aren't going to do anything for you until you start getting into the lower/mid tripples.

so, what your saying is...  even though i cut 5-10 secs at jennings witht he fairing on than off its just me?

or that same time(S) diffrence at the CMP track that its just me? i think not.

no trust me, it's just you.  The GS500 isn't near fast enough to find a 5~10 second gain just from aerodynamic efficiency while going around Jennings.  The straights at Jennings aren't long enough for a GSXR 1000 to find a 5~10 second gain...

You may have been capable of the faster lap times without the fairing but with it maybe it puts you in a "sporty" mode and you ride with more confidence as though you goign faster cause of the looks.  Kinda like when you get new shoes and you think you can run faster.....ok maybe thats just for 5 year olds....and me.
