alpha been there, btw man, i didnt ask, cause i guess you were aggrivated on the chat room when you were talking about it, but what kind of truck was it, cause i had an incident with my gs, on my 3rd ride involving a transfer truck who decided to reverse to tlka to a buddy, i did the name and number thing, but he never showed number was disconnected, etc, so his delivery truck ceased normal operation a day later

Well you should have been smart enough to know that something like taht could happen because your no squid, right?  And if you would have offset yourself enough that when he came back that he wouldnt hit you then it would have been just a scare and no collision.  You can be offset but it still wont mean anything till you are offset enough that you are no longer in his line forward or backward.  I think your just mad cause you got ran over and it could have been avoided.   :thumb:

STFU.  I'd like to see you try it.  And if you were reading AT ALL, you'd read that he pulled up behind the truck trying to get into a GATE...

Meaning, there was probably room for TWO cars...  One car going in, one car going OUT.  Alpha couldn't have offset himself enough to avoid this.

The ONLY way he could have avoided this was to wait in the middle of the street.  That way, he wouldn't get backed into.  He'd get run over by another car.

And besides...  someone almost gets hurt because of SOMEONE ELSE'S fault, and you have the galls to insult him?

OMW is sorry to hear of your incident/accident and is happy that you are alright and still among us.
Taxes are Good. Millions that have been on Welfare for the last 30 years are depending on you. Also Millions that are coming over the border each year are depending on YOU.
Also taxes will fix our shitty schools and roads that have been broken for 40+ years.

You really don't get it do you???

It happened so fast it kinda felt like it. He accelerated fairly quickly, but not a punch, thankfully.

Can you not read or comprehend things? Like An said, I pulled up behind him at a gate, which meant there was enough room for our lane, and the lane EXITING the gate. So that means I would have had to either pull behind him or pull into the opposing lane and face exiting traffic. Yay reading! You jackass.

well i still think it could have been avoided.  Its not like traffic is going to fast to be sitting on the center line as it is a gate after all and people stop and go stop and go.  So center line would be no problem, as the traffic would not be "rushing" past because they were just sitting waiting for the gate.  And also, fiddling with your keys.  sure it was nice, but you could of at leat anylized the situation and because your no squid you should have known he possibly might reverse as he couldnt find his key or whatever he needed.  I think your still going through the squidly stages of biking, maybe youll learn to make yourself safe and then help the other person.  Because in this situation you werent safe and neither was he, but if you would have let him know you were there somehow or pulled to the side and then got your key you would have not been hit.  Right?  One day youll grow out of the squidliness.  :kiss3:

Quote from: Kasumi...cracked rib (from sliding over a raised steel grate in the road)..

that must have hurt.  I guess you won't be riding for a bit?

Alpha, if you had your full fairings on, I'm sure the dude in the truck would have seen you.  You have no one to blame but your naked self.

Il prolly be out for a few weeks - about the time it should take me to get the bike back in working order. The state of the roads around me has always annoyed me but more in terms of having to avoid wet grates and raised grates right in a riders path because they are uncomfortable to ride over (its a common problem here in the UK, bikers are given no consideration when designing roads) However after sliding across one its not just an annoyance and danger riding but when youve fallen too.

I went riding as a pillion today, to mallory park to watch the race of the year and some other good races. Met Chris Walker and had a chat with Neil Mckenzzie - he wasn't doing anything track wise he was just been inconspicuous and watching the races with his son and happened to be stood next to us which was cool. The sitting in pillion position was abit painful due to bruises and rib but it was ok - more annoying because i had planned to ride my bike with the group of us going on bikes!

Well....I guess it's time to come clean and tell y'all about my spill.
I was on my way to work, going about 50mph, when I see a bicyclist on the side of the road traveling in the same direction. There was also an oncoming car, so I slowed to about 40 to avoid having a 3-wide situation on a 2 lane road. Right after the car went by the bicyclist made a 90 degree left turn in front of me (I assume trying to get to his driveway that was across the road). The very last thing I remember was his body being perfectly in line with the bike.

Whatever I did saved his life since I hit the rear of his bike (he was thrown and messed up his knees pretty badly) whereas my bike ended up on its right side. I can only imagine what would have happened to him had I hit his body.
I was apparently knocked unconscious sometime after my last memory. I awoke on the ambulence with the EMT asking me what number he told me to remember (It was the number 6....I had no idea )

Damage to the bike
-Broken front fender
-Tweaked headlight (still points straight...is just positioned to the left a bit)
-Bent handlebars
-Relatively messed up radiator (cap was ripped off and a small hole was rubbed in the metal thingy that goes into the engine block)
-Bent rear brake pedal
-F%*&d up guage cluster. It still works, but is no longer bolted to bike.

Damage to me
-Broken right clavicle
-3 bruised ribs
-"Severe Head Trauma"

This all happened on tuesday the 10th. They say it's going to take 6 weeks for the bone to heal...hopefully I can will it to heal faster
If you all want I can post a picture of my xrays and of my gear (for all your blood, guts, and gore lovers lol  :flipoff:)

Anyway....Glad you guys are ok Alpha and Kasumi....

Btw...My helmet was messed up pretty badly. The visor was ripped off sometime during the sliding. I was wearing a cheap JC Penny's leather jacket that I got last week for 20 bucks. It did a remarkable job of saving my hide. As did my patched up jeans. I've had them for so long that they are essentially 3 layers of patches all the down the legs. So my road rash is very limited (about the size of a quarter on the tip of my knee)

Glad all of you are ok

skoebl, don't bet on it.  6 weeks is being extremely optimistic.  Even if you think you should ride, don't.  Wait two months before taking the bike for a spin, or longer.

Kasumi, UK roads are awesome.  I completely envy your situation.  Lane spitting, check.  365 days of riding, check.  Awesome twisty winding roads, check.  I don't understand why there aren't more bikes on the road, especially given the rush hour traffic.  Yeah, so you have a little rain, and those nasty speed trap cameras, but no big deal.

[edit] : And the price of gas, errr.. petrol.  Why would you drive anything other than a bike?

Kasumi

Lol I dunno. I only have a bike and its bloody good for that exact reason - fuel doesn't kill me.

The roads around here are pretty awesome in terms of twistyness (every road is twisty) But i live in the country so you have to be careful for horses and mud on the roads from the farms.

As i said i went to Mallory park yesterday there was probably 500 bikes there just to see Chris Walker! I know alot of people around here with bikes but most of them are fair weather riders - i will be out all year round - they only come out when its warm!

I vote for more bikes!

I called the agent I'll be working with and she got my side of the story. She then called the insured and called me back shortly thereafter and we made an arrangement to leave my bike at the dealer for a few days so their adjuster could work with the shop to get the estimate done properly. I then made a claim on my hlmet since it did hit the ground, and I'll be getting a new one. They're even giving me a rent-a-car to drive around until my bike is fixed.

I should hopefully have everything taken care of by the middle of next week.

-1 to anyone who gets on Alpha's case.

Seriously this is what STFU was meant for.

shaZam! happens, none of us are perfect.

Get off Alpha's injured, bike smashed case and go ride in a parking lot until you are the perfect rider. (As if a perfect rider exists.) And then go show us how you can PREDICT what everyone does minutes, even HOURS before they do it.

Oh yeah, and flaming me would be really smart, being that I'm mearly stating that people SHOULD NOT jump other people's cases for small mistakes.
Rich, RIP.
