Make Me Feel Better...

I just wrote a rejection letter to a company that wanted me to be their mechanical engineer.  It was, no joke, my dream job.  Sales/technical consulting for a company that makes emissions equipment for reciprocating engines.  Tons of growth potential, as this established company is literally about to explode due to proposed EPA standards.

It is in a small town and my wife teaches High School French.  She wouldn't have a job, and I'd be hours from an airport.  I would like to be closer to my family and this place was pretty far away even by plane.

I'm sad.

Where do you come in?  Post a hilarious (yet appropriate) picture to make me feel better!

Teachers don't have a hard time finding jobs, and you have your own family now.  I mean if you think you'll all be happier where you are, then you made the right decision.  Small town life is far superior to Kansas City, I can tell you that.

What's more important, having the perfect "JOB", or enjoying the company of your loved ones.

Think of it this way...  Would you work for them for FREE?  If not, it's NOT your "dream job".

Ya, I'd work for them for a pretty low wage...  It really is my dream job, just in the wrong location.

Mak, this job is in the mountains in a town of 15,000 people.  In my opinion...AWESOME!  I grew up in Chicago and I'm sick of the suburbs.  I'm also big into nature and mountain biking.  It would be heaven for me!  We've done the research and there really is no job for her.  There one french teacher for the whole town.  Its also 2 hours away from a small-ish airport, so seeing family would be a chore.  Family is extremely important to us.

Wait...what the hell...NO FUNNY PICTURES YET?

Oh yeah, that is a classic!  I have always wanted to frame a few of those and put them in my shop.

I'm still miffed about the Kansas City comment. . .

But hey, finding a job/picking a city is an exciting time.  Good luck!

Look up Saskatoon, SK Canada on google Earth. Then draw a line to Minneapolis, MN.
I'm in 'toon town, family & friends are in MN. Luckily there are direct flights and I travel to MN for work frequently on their dime.

Not much is worth being away from family. In my case it was a decent compromise with a fairly solid ending date. I'd say you chose wisely.   :thumb:
