Hard to roll the bike in first gear

When i put my bike in neutral, i can roll it around without any problems at all (bike off).  Really easy.

If I shift to first and pull the clutch in all the way, it's a lot harder to move... I really have to push hard to get it rolling.

I tried this on someone else's GS and rolling it in neutral was the same as rolling it in first with the clutch in... doesnt take much effort.

Is this normal or should i be able to roll the bike in first with the clutch in as easily as it rolls in neutral?

Thanks

brett

My guess is that the clutch cable needs adjust. If the play in the cable is off, you may not be fully disengaging the clutch. Check out Kerry's video for a howto.

There's going to be some friction between the plates, even with the clutch engaged, as the oil is viscous and causes drag. A little is normal. A lot is not. That's my understanding.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I'm going to have to say "clutch drag"

adjust your cable.

My GS does the same thing, but it's not a lot.

most likely it's your cable that needs to be tightened. Sometimes bikes will do this more when the engine is cold especially if using thicker oil (like 15w40, 15w50, 20w50 etc) but then once the oil is warm it won't do it at all.

Yeah is it warm or cold, when my bike is cold(40°F) it is a biatch to move in first gear and not running.

When it warm it is as smooth as butter.
