i am looking for suggestions on what to use and/or what not to use on face shileds?  i have an arai original face shield if that matters.  i'm trying to avoid the trial and error route since i can't afford a new shield if i hit the error part first.   i've found on the web all kinds of people for and against rain-x, some have said to use pledge.  i need product advice.

thanks,

I used Pledge, it's ok, but not great, Rain-x is better on the windshield of my car. I have heard that it is the volatile solvent in Rain-X that causes the windshield to crack, so, in theory, if you let it dry a on a rag before applying, it should be safe, but I have not dared to try.
Better is Maguair's (sp?) 17 followed by 10 (or is it 10 followed by 17?). I use them to remove hairline scratches. They work well also for rain.

I use Meguire's liquid car wax.  #3 or their 3-part combination.  Works quite well.

I don't use anything. What exactly are you asking for? Are you looking for a de-fogger to be used on the inside? Or just a wax, or something like Rain-X to keep the rain off, for the outside?

De-fogger - I've heard of using gel type toothpaste like clear green, minty fresh Crest...Not Colgate though, I heard that's too abrasive; But I've never tried this.

Otherwise, I just use a 100% white cotton shirt and breathe on the faceshield to fog it up and wipe both the in and outside.

Ah, after I posted I read your title. A little trick I use is to turn my head a little to one side and let the wind roll the water off the shield, then the other side.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

RainX works very well, but doesn't last long on a face shield. I used it four or five times on one, and didn't see any change in the shield.
