Went to the track yesterday.

Practice round:
Lost to a guy on a VF700F Interceptor.

First race:
Got the Jump on a VF500F Interceptor and kept him in my mirror all the way down the track.  When we got back to the pits he came over and said "hey that's one fast little Suzuki"

Second race:
Sent a girl on an EX500 Ninja packing.  She beat me off the line but my bike had more torque down low.  Whooped her until 3/4 track.  The EX SCREAMS on the top end and she almost caught me.  I got my boot hung up and bungled the shift to 3rd so I just kept the throttle pegged until the far side of redline and held her off for the win.  I went to shake her hand in the pits after the race and she wouldn't look at me.  She was mad :guns:

Third race:
Perfect launch.  7,000rpms, lots of traction, feed in the clutch and the front end climbs up.  Push it back down and keep the throttle w i d e  o p e n.  Screamed down the track imagining all the girls pointing at me (yeah right, that'll happen) :bs: .  Hit every shift - perfect race so far.  Got to about 3/4 track and started looking in my mirror for the GSXR750.  The wheelie at the start had knocked my mirror out of whack and I couldn't see (I was all tucked down with my face on the tach).  Had to move around and found the GSXR in my mirror.  He came by me at A HUNDRED AND THIRTY MILES AN HOUR.  I lost to him (broke out - on the brakes) by 9 thousandths of a second.  He came around in the pits and said it was the best race of the night

I am doing this to dial in my jetting.  Current status is:

1989 GS500E ~29K miles
K&N pods
130 mains
37 pilots
1 washer on the needle
3 turns on the screws
3 holes drilled in the stock muffler

The bike ran consistent 14.80's (a 14.75 dial in would have beaten the GSXR750).  Reaction times were ~.6xx

Next week if I can make it out to the track I will have 135 mains in.  When I get the jetting for the K&N dialed in I will put the supertrapp on and start all over.

Are those K&N jet kit numbers?

I need to go to a test and tune night here for fun.

I bought the jets from the dealer.  I believe they were out of the Mikuni catalog.  Not a kit, just the jets.

Then your running lean I am running 140 mains and 40 pilots with 2 washers and 2.5 turns out. With just the pod filter, unless of course your at a high altitude...

Altitude is less than a hundred feet above sea level.  I will tune the jetting based on ET and plot it all at every mod starting with the K&N.

Would the fatter pilots improve my 60 ft. time?

The fatter pilots help out with warmup time on the GS.

I dunno about drag racing a bike but we always lowered tire pressure or put on sticky tires to be able to drop the clutch from higher up when we did cars. But I guess on a bike you have the wheelie problem to worry about.

dilema dilema..., don't know who should I root for, VF500 interceptor or GS ?  You had an exciting report though.  Cool!!

The 500 interceptor surprised me a bit.  I saw F1R tips on it and a modded shock with remote res..  I just expected him to whomp me and I held him off all the way down the track.

The GSXR was the most impressive thing I have ever seen.  That guy looked like he was shot out of a cannon.  To see that coming up in your mirror like a bullet when YOU are doing nearly a hundred miles an hour is an impressive sight.  Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
