How do I sync my carbs?  I understand the principle but there is no vaccuum port on the second (throttle side) carb right?

there should be two black rubber caps, one on each carb

are you missing one?  I don't mean your not seeing it, but is it just not there?

Check out the recent thread called maintenance.  This gives some info about the tools you need.

The vacuum caps stick UP from the top, front, right corner of each carb.

What year is your bike? If you have an 01+, the caps are in different spots... they're not symmetrically located on each of the slide covers like the older bikes.

I have an 89'.  I was thinking the vaccuum port was the tube going to the petcock and there isn't one of those on the right side carb.  The vaccuum port is somewhere else?

The vacuum ports are on the very top of the diaphram covers on the carbs - the top of the black covers, at the top!

You're talking about the vacuum port that pulls fuel into the carbs when the petcock is turned to the ON or RES settings.  That particular vacuum port is NOT used when synching your carburetors.

Instead, you need to pull off the two black rubber caps that klimber mentioned and attach the hoses from your carb synch tool.  As I stated earlier, these caps should be in the top, front, right-hand corner of each carb (next to the large round black cap on top).  They stick UP, as opposed to down or left or right.

If you forget to replace these caps when you remove the carb synch tool hoses, you will create a vacuum leak.  The carb synchronizer works by comparing the relative lack-of-pressure (vacuum) exhibited by each carburetor.

Does that help?
